The greatest power of all….

During the past 2 weeks, God drew my attention to this power and the effect it has.  It started on our Luke 10 in Hawaii, when Johannes and I got to spend 3 days with two lovely people (Julie and her daughter Jana).  I believe that it was God’s divine appointment for us to meet Julie ‘randomly’ at a laundromat, starting a conversation about wi-fi.  This all led to her offering us food, a lift back to our tents, breakfast the next morning and to stay at their place (something she would never do with strangers).  During the time with them, we saw all there was to see and had the privilege to share in their lives.  During this time I was reminded that everyone just needs to love and be loved in return.  Unconditional love has the greatest power ever!

Our time in Sri Lanka just emphasized that.  As we painted at the children’s home and spend time with the girls there, we grow to love each other in just 4 days!  The Bible teaches us that love covers a multitude of sin and that perfect love drives away fear.  This is exactly what we saw here.  Most of the girls in the children’s home are there because of abuse at home and most of them come from a Buddhist background.  The only thing that brings true healing for them is Jesus’ love.  Those who accepted Him, experience this.  As we said our farewells on Thursday, all the girls were in tears.  They allowed us into their lives and the love of Christ which we shared has an impact we can not comprehend.

As we travelled through Thailand on our way to Cambodia, I pondered on that which I was shown.  Paging through my journal, I stumbled across the letter Anne-Marie wrote to welcome us into the family.  It ended by saying the following –  
“But most of all LOVE… Love till it hurts…
And then it will hurt no more.”

As we entered Cambodia, a little boy stood behind a pillar at the place we were waiting for our visas.  As he curiously peeped around the pillar, my heart went out to this child.  Even though I felt I had nothing to give, I had a few minutes of my time, and even though I did not know his language, I could play a simple game with him, showing that someone does care… 

Sometimes it just takes a simple act to show love, most of the time it requires our time and giving something of ourselves.  Yet, whatever it may take, there is nothing on earth as powerful as love.  And God proved that to us through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.  May we come to know and understand the power of that love and may our love never grow cold.
