A 24 year old volunteer (me) time keeping at the Global Leadership Academy sports day was hit over the head with the high jump pole that was holding up the sail providing shade in the sweltering heat. The windy city of PE certainly lives up to its name. She was rushed to the local GP by her caring team leaders. She narrowly escaped with a few stiches of laughter from herself and witnesses to this sensationalist scene. For once we can be thankful for her exceptionally hard head!
Now that I have your attention....
17 Days ago I began Global challenge - the adventure of a lifetime! It has been a great experience so far with the first week of settling in and getting to know all the global challenge legends and their tales. We learnt about all of the businesses, projects and ideas linked to Global challenge through past participants meeting the needs they are capacitated to fill. From coffee shops to carpenters making standing frames for Cerebral Paulsy children and even a school with the GLA eco campus under construction it is awesome to see how God can provide and work with willing and faithfilled hearts!
We were then thrown completely out of our comfort zones in to the bush where survival mode kicked in and we got to know our team mates very well very quickly. It was a really great time of break through, being real with each other and of course adventurous fun! After 4 nights of sleeping under the glorious stars we were very happy to get to a shower and comforts of jbay!
Last week we dug into Veritas part one which is a tool that helps us to unpack scripture, make sermons and see how it applies today. It was presented in such an exicting way that I couldn't help but be inspired to read more about the old testament heroes. Who is your favourite old testament hero? This might sound like a nerdy question for those who like me could vaguely remember the Sunday school stories we were told as kids but I would love to challenge you to read them again... Unpack the story.... Research the context, where the country you are reading about is on the map today, how does the story fit in to the bigger picture and apply to us in life today . These stories will come alive and see them all around you.
The other input sessions I could go on writing about for pages .... Just see my notebook which is already half full but instead I will just say my mind is blown but my spirit is smiling :)
This weekend we are assisting at the GLA school camp and from next week we have the privilege of leading discovery bible study groups in the school with groups of 6-9 students and continuing training.
I can't wait to see what God has in store for us for the rest of the year!
