A magnitude of 8.6 earth quake struck off Indonesia yesterday and sent people scurrying to higher ground. Tsunami alert warnings went out, people were evacuated from all the beaches in Phuket and the airport was temporarily shut down.
All of this happened while our team continued to paint ignorantly. We only felt the aftershock after we were made aware of this fact and decided to pray for the safety of the people of Phuket and the other countries who might be influenced. I was surprised by the calmness all of us experienced and we trusted God for His protection in this time.
During our evening prayer walk I had a revelation with regard to this. As in many other countries one cannot drink the tap water in Thailand, which means that one should either have a filter readily available or one should buy sealed water from the nearest shop. In the Bible the Holy Spirit is often associated with water and this made me think a bit about the whole water situation in Phuket. It felt like this is a picture of the current spiritual situation in Thailand, that the Holy Spirit cannot freely work in this place, just like the water cannot be drunk freely. I found it quite ironic that this is a country so often influenced by tsunamis. According to Wikipedia a tsunami is a series of water waves caused by the displacement of a large volume of a body of water. This to me brought much hope. The Holy Spirit is like a tsunami, He cannot be stopped and once He has entered your life there is no turning back.
We continue to pray for protection against any tsunamis, but at the same time I pray that the Holy Spirit will strike the lives of the people here in Phuket like a tsunami, that they will be filled with Him! We pray John 7:38 over this community: “Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, 'Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.”
