Build a house for a family of 8!

Please help us build a house for a family of 8 currently living in a small hut in which they can barely accommodate the whole family and their belongings. The lack of a secure house becomes especially oppressive in the face of the fast approaching rainy season. Please help us raise R33, 000 in order to provide a secure house for this family before the rains come. We woud like to start the project on the 23rd of May and finish on the 5th of June 2011.

Our friend Lawale faithfully serves the local church and currently resides, with his wife and 6 children, on a property that they do not own, and it is here that we will be building. Our main priority is to meet the urgent need for a watertight shelter (R3000) in preparation for the rainy season however it would be even more empowering for this family if we could raise up to R33,000 to help them buy their own decent developed property.

Background..........

Two weeks ago we were warmly received in Zinder, Niger, by a church planting organisation called World Outreach Missions. This organisation has offered great service opportunitites to GCEX Explore Africa teams over the past three years. Their relationship with Explore Africa has opened up doors for serving people such as the 'Urgent Relief for Niger' project that was executed in 2010. This successful project involved feeding thousands of people who were struck by famine in Niger. The 2011 Explore Africa team has been confronted by a need too devistating to deny. The need appears to be on a relatively small scale but our hearts were really moved to act out of compassion and gather resources as far as our reach can take us.

The Need.........

We have had the privilige of being acquainted with a family of 8 that lives in a very small mud hut. The hut is so small that most of the family sleeps outside. This seems to be the norm, even for people who have a choice to sleep indoors, because of the high temperature conditions in this country. However, this family is faced with the harsh reality of not having a choice when the rainy season comes. They dread the approaching rainy season with concern for their children and belongings that cannot be accommodated in their small mud hut.

Action and Targets.......

We would really love to assist this family by building a small house, with a watertight roof, in which the whole family, as well as their few belongings, can be safely sheltered when the rains come. In addition, we want to pursue the possibility of purchasing a decent developed property for their long term needs. The sum of money required to achieve this goal is R33, 000. We would really appreciate it if you could please partner with us in making this initiative a reality. There is much urgency in the matter as we will only be in Niger until the 8th of June. It is our intention to start this project on the 23rd of May and end it on the 5th of June 2011. After much research and consultation with the experienced locals we discovered that this is attainable provided we have sufficient funds. We will be using local building materials which can be easily procured.

Thank you for your time and support!!!!!!!!
