Malaysia team kicked off our ministry by getting our hands dirty. The 9 members of the Global challenge team that remained in Malaysia started working yesterday with the harvest centre.
Their mission statement is “Breaking the cycle of poverty through education.” The school caters for poverty stricken children as well as refugees and anyone that they can get out of the cycle of being uneducated.
After a brief orientation of their ministry and their expectations for us during the next three weeks of our stay it was time to get working. Our program started yesterday with some deep cleaning at the school as well as at the Epoch Youth Resource Centre that they run. With some buckets, soap, scrubbing brushes, brooms, mops, vacuum cleaners and willing hands the team got stuck right into the mission. After a long day of sweat and “clean fun” we headed off to the school again for a prayer meeting session with some of the workers and students.
Well so far so good the humidity is extremely high where we are but
nothing like an ice cold root beer to cool down. Only problem is that you will have to have one every two minutes to remain cool.
Our schedule is jam packed during the next three weeks. Here are a few tasks that we will be doing during our stay here:
*Teaching English, Art, Drama, and Music on a daily basis
* Helping with the school’s Sports day
*Deep Cleaning…
* Teach the children a drama on the life of Joseph
*Football practices with boys and netball with girls
* Compiling a children’s story, highlighting their daily struggles and joys.
*Setting up a marketing strategy to help run the youth resource centre.
And much much more…
Here a few pics from our work so far
