I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little...
Well, I always was the team blogger, making everything as impersonal as possible, like the outside world sometimes may expect from me, hiding a bit of the truth from the sensitive eye. From the outside, it seems so easy to pack up your life and run after God to the other side of the world. Because so many others do it. But the truth is, you are chasing into a place where you are completely exposed for God to mold, without the comfort or 'necessities' you always knew. It always sounds so romantic to just go, but are you truly willing to trust God with all you have? Your finances, even if it means not having enough money for a single chocolate. Your joy, knowing that you can't be uplifted by or see the smiles of the one you love. And if God takes away all your 'stuff', will you still be content? Are we really living the lives the bible speaks about, or we
speak about - All for Christ. Or are we completely self-centered when we look at ourselves from God's point of view?
We tend to ask Godː ‘Why did You let this happen to me?’ But once you see yourself through God’s eyes, you would rather say ː ‘God, look what you saved me from!’ We are always ready to testify about how God provides, but what if He takes away? Will we still be able to testify and say ‘Glory a Dios’?
Prior to Global Challenge, my whole life was about people, my people, sacrificing who I am and what I want to please them and serve them. And as far as I can remember, I’ve had technology as means to do that… and I always tried to convince myself that I needed these things to get by. When my bag of stuff got stolen the first time in Iquitos, I pondered for a second why God allowed… and then I jumped straight back to my prior reactions ː ‘How will I speak to my people? I’m in the amazon, how will I take
pictures of this beautiful place?’ So I borrowed money and replaced it. Exactly 45 days later, everything got stolen again, and finally God opened my eyes so I could see the truth – how much technology has stolen from me, and how much it steals from us our most precious gift in life – time. Once, loved ones actually spent hours together across from each other in a restaurant, just enjoying each other’s company. Now because of something like Wi-Fi, they are still sitting across from each other, in their own world, speaking to people that are not there and their losing the precious moments. People take photos of a beauty that can’t be summed up by the best camera, but they never look past their lenses to see the magnificence of God’s creation. And if you are in that spot where you have no money, do you develop a poor-person-mentality, or do you know in truth and spirit, you have everything and truly believe that. I mean, have you ever had to sit next to the road with your
guitar, just to earn R5 to put up a blog, hoping and praying that it might touch someone’s life?
Phil 4 ː13 is quoted everywhere and for everything ː ‘For I can do anything through Christ that gives me strength’ but have you ever read the verses above it? ‘I have learned to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.
LIVE IN EVERY SITUATION. Really live, each day. So many times the things we live for just fades away like flowers – they are beautiful for a season. Learn to live in a way where you don’t waste your most precious gifts – time and salvation. Don’t let losing earthly possessions finally cause your eyes to open. There was so many times where I wished I’d rather give away my stuff than have it stolen from me… but my self-centered nature wouldn’t
have given it anyway.
Mat 6 ː21 ‘Where your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.’ Is your treasure something you can take with you into eternity, or will it just be another shiny object left on your grave, unused, and undeserved?
