I'm finally Globally Challenged...

 -work your way-

I can truly testify that I have grown in God this past month with Global Challenge!  First one of the best times was when Welman, Jakes and I went surfing when it was dark at supertubes (the surfing spot where BILLABONG PRO is held).  Although Welman and I didn’t catch a wave it was an awesome experience!  The next day Philip came with and we surfed like pro’s(duh).


We headed to the Bush… We arrived at the Bush on January 24th.  When we arrived we were told to take 6 items with for the next few days.  I took my toothbrush, knife, bag, sleeping bag, pen and paper.  We had to build shelters for ourselves.  For food, we had challenges to do, and if you do well in a challenge you get lots of food, but if you do badly you get a small packet of coffee or an apple for each person. On the second day we lost almost all of the challenges and only ate 3 slices of dry bread the whole day.   That night we had to swop shelters, and we got another teams shelter that only fits in 5 people and we were 7 big guys!  That made our team a bit negative but we kept on going and the next day we won every challenge!

 
A few days later the Global Leadership Academy kids joined us and we were having a blessed time with these kids in the bush.

The night we came back from the bush most of us went to the Spur.  Phil and I had waffles and cappuccino for supper. That was so good after having to fight for your food…
Our next Project was that of helping people at Mahosheni in the Transkei.

We had to raise funds and we had risen about R18 000 for this project in a matter of a week or more.
On the 4th we want to the Transkei and helped the people there.  It was very difficult adapt to their culture and their way of living.  It made me realize that I have so much to be thankful for.  At Mahosheni we didn’t have electricity nor did we have water because our tap was out of order and about 200meters from our hut.  We started to build a hut, clinic, long drop and a garden tunnel.   One thing I love about the people there is that they do not care about time.  They do not worry about time.  During this time I ate lots of “stamp mielies”, pap and beans.  God helped us so much during our time at Mahosheni.  He protected us and he just came through for us all of the time.  God gave us energy to work really hard every day.  It was so sad to see that so little people there know about the Gospel, but that only inspired us to go out and share.  We finished at Mahosheni on the 10th of February.  Then we walked to Coffee bay to meet up with the other team.  

OUR FIRST CHALLENGE
Our challenge was to get from Coffee bay to Jeffreys bay with R100 each and we needed to do a few things while on the road.  The rules were that you may not use your own money, or ask help from anyone you know. I’ve never eaten chicken legs, drink Umlasi, taken a photo at Madiba’s house in the Transkei nor catch a pig until this challenge.

On the 12th at 6o’clock in the morning we started the challenge.We went searching in Coffee bay for pigs but couldn’t catch one for we didn’t have enough time.  We took a Taxi from Coffee bay to Mqanduli and then from Mqanduli we got on another taxi to Qunu where Madiba's house is.  We had to take a picture there for it was on our list.  We waited for about an hour then a man named Ruan picked us up and took us to East London where he was staying.  On our way to E.L. he phoned his Mom and asked her if she would prepare us lunch.  That was such a blessing!  They also went out of their way and took us to a friend of theirs whom had a farm to take a photo with a pig.

They dropped us then at a spot that lots of people hiked from.  From there we couldn't get any lifts because we were 7 guys and no one wants to pick up big 7 guys.  We decided to split up and to get one another at P.E!  5 Of us got together in P.E. at about 9 o clock that night, but Henru and Freddy were still 300km behind.  Then a guy picked us up and told us he is only going to take us to another garage that is in town and it would be easier to get a lift from there.   Then I forgot one of my bags in his car and saw him drive away.  I was so disappointed because there as so many things in there that was valueble. We went from this garage in search of a lift on the N2 but returning to the garage for rest.

 We were there for about 5 hours, all this while one of our team mates was very sick.  This meant that we couldn’t walk to make the gap smaller to J-bay, but we had to wait for a lift.  At this stage all of us were so negative and hungry and so sleepy.  Most of us slept inside this store at the garage.

The next moment I saw the guy that had brought us to this garage, standing inside of the store and he said that he would take us just outside P.E. because it would be easier to get a lift from there to Jeffreys bay.
God worked in his son that his son couldn’t sleep and he took him for a ride and thought that he would just come and check if we are still there and he found us and gave us a lift.  Just think about it, he woke up at half past two in the morning and God told him that he should check if we are still at the garage and see if we needed a lift.  GOD WORKS!
So when we arrived just outside P.E. he stopped next to the road, climbed out and walked to the back of the bakkie and told us he would take us to Jeffreys bay.  At three in the morning God gave us lift to Jeffreys.  We arrived in Jeffreys infront of the Global Leadership Academy at 5 o clock in the morning.  When we came there we were so hungry but we decided to wait for the rest of our team (Henru & Freddy).  They only arrived at J-bay at 11 o clock.  So it took us 29 hours to finish and then we ate like kings because we had pizzas!

We experienced God to the fullest!  Although we came last we grew and learned so much from God and that He will always provide!
