Cuba will be remembered as a country caught up in the past. Movie scene streets, 60c ice cream, classical old model cars and hearts warmer than the street pizza on offer.
We were served like kings by the dearest Cuban family, struggling to put food on their own tables. Blessed with our daily Ola! and a warm smile we had our daily hot chocolate and bread before starting the day.
Cuba opened my eyes to see what luxury we actually live in back home. The mere thought of running water when you open the tap now makes me want to say a grateful prayer. For the first time in my life I can see the freedom of choice as a God given blessing.
To a country trapped within its own shores, I could only awkwardly smile when I heard a Cuban say that "the longer you are in prison, the more you begin to like the four walls".
I leave Cuba as being my favourite country, even though my heart burns for those left behind.
