21/04/2014 The country where your heart gets torn in two, and your soul cries out “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?".(Matthew 27:46) This Hindu-colony with its pack of gods, “Father, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they are doing.”(Luke 23:34) Where colonialism's deep, raw, wounds are still festering and the demonic-gods are indulging them in the hopelessness of this colony's ants. This is indeed an exotic colony, with exotic beings. If I think back to the three weeks I spent in India, I think of a tremendous number of mosquitos, the zooming of lots and lots flies around rotten food,...
Guatemala In one word... Growth!! When we were about to leave Costa Rica, Geoff felt that our team should split up and meet each other again in Guatemala in 10 days. Quinton and I traveled together and had an amazing journey. We spent 3 days on a volcanic island on Lake Nicaragua and climbed a 1670m volcano!! As we were getting closer to our destination, so our money started running out and we barely made it to Panajachel, a very peaceful town next to Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. But the Lord provided use with a place...
This blog will be my attempt to explain what happen the last 7 weeks of training, seeing as I don't journal I'll try my best... Training: January 11 - 28 February Welcoming Our first weekend it felt like meeting family for the first time, everyone was super exited and full of expectations!! We were welcomed as if we landed at an airport and had to book in our luggage and have our passports ready. I soon after got to meet everyone that is doing the Work Your Way journey, Geoff - our group leader, Quinton, Vilandré, Roan - but...
Europe WoW!! What an amazing journey. While we were still in Canada serving at one of the camps, there was a team helping to facilitate activities for one of the churches at the camp. This organization’s name is Athletes in Action and they spread the gospel through sports ministry, when they heard about our idea to cycle through Europe they helped us get in contact with Athletes in Action in the Netherlands. When we arrived in the Netherland, they welcomed us with open arms as family, an awesome feeling. During the next few days they helped us get bicycles...
Canada We are now in Canadian air space and as we look down we see no snow what so ever!! BIG disappointment as in our minds Canada “is” snow. After n little speed bump at customs we were picked up and drove to Ignite Camp and Retreat Center the place we would call home for the next month and a half. After all “formalities” were done and over with we got settled in, and we were overjoyed at all the freedom we had. We stayed in our own cabin hidden in the “woods”, in the kitchen we had a...
Cuba Luke 10 Journey Our time in Mexico has come to an end and we’re waiting for our flight from Cancun Airport to Cuba. We’re sitting at a table playing cards. Geoff’s telling us that the pastor in Cuba did not come back to him and that the Lord has leaded him to that we do a Luke 10 Journey instead. I’m to team up with Vilandre and Geoff with Quinton. We arrive in Cuba 3pm the morning and to save some money we slept on the airport and took a taxi to a guest house at 7pm. We...
So we have finally landed at our first destination! Istanbul! So we are sitting and our accommodation team went to find a place to stay :D they're first challenge seems to be more tough than we thought. But the first experience is unexplainable, you try to talk to the people and try to find out some information and they don't understand you that good and only one thing comes to mind, WHAT A PRIVILEGE. So I give thanks to God for every moment and every moment to come. And so as nightfall came closer we had to find a place to stay...
Good day everyone So my first blog will be about our hard work at the first project that we are busy with. All the guys have blisters after this week! But we do this out of the love of God! This was probably one of the hardest weeks and that was just a small taste of what is lying ahead. This week we also managed to raise some of the money that was needed to complete the project. I was also for the first time on this very high roof that in that moment I also realised that I am...
