So, I woke up in my own bed this morning after 7 weeks of sleeping in unfamiliar places with people I hardly know. Now I can say that I have 35 new homes built in my heart. On Thursday night we were commisioned, and man, what a long journey to FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!! Talking about homes. Time to be honest about the one I'm living in. The one you can't see with your eyes. The one you feel with your heart. For quite a long time, I was disobedient and didn't want to leave behind the familiar, to experience...
Adventuring with the Adventurer.
Jesus takes us on the best, handmade adventures. All we need to do is say YES.
Wow! How do you even start to put the past two weeks in to words? Trainig started off with a bang! Well, no guns were included, but after a lot of heart warming stories from the Global community, and visiting all the awesome schools, we had our first challege!! From catching a chicken (we named her Sally, and no, she cannot dance), to surfing and eventually hiking down to a farm where we spent the next 4 days doing "Survivor Global". With nothing but he clothes on our backs and few "luxury items", we were bushing it out,we...
With a heart wild with expectancy, and eyes filled with wonder, I arrived at OR Tambo on the 4th of March. What to expect? I didn't know. All I knew is that I am about to embark on the journey of a lifetime, to live a life like no other. And all this, with Jesus as my compass and anchor. We boarded flight 202 headed to Dar es Salaam, and you could smell the excitement in the air. Our flight only jetted off at 23:20, and I soon found out that a dinner tray can also be used as a...
Isanbul - A place of contrast. Located on two continents, a city of many worlds. The place that dominated continents. The meeting point of cultures and civilization. A capital of culture, an inspiration, and a true Turkish delight. It's hard to describe a city with so many years of history. We arrived at the place wish soon turned in to my most memorable adventure destination so far. Settling in to our hostel, and getting a good night of rest (that only lasted until 5 in the morning due to the multitude of world renowned mosques...
23 April 2015. Independence day- A day of celebration, music, dancing, partying all decorated with blue and white flags. Walking down the highway in Tyberias I saw two men in a little white Kia, their faces looked like home! It was oom Wikus and Hennie hooting all the way! Excitement bubbled up in me, after not seeing loved ones for so long! We ended up eating Mc Donalds on top of the hill we pitched our tents on (it ended being someone's farm, haha) Our first two nights in Tyberias ended up being sleepless, because...
2 015-03-16 Our time in beautiful Zanzibar ended, and we were excited to merge with Hidden World and WYW again. After spending a very blessed night in Dar es Salaam, we got on the 06:00 bus to Kenya! "Some call it Africa, I call it home" , or so they say. My entire view of Africa changed. I am South-African, so Africa, beautiful Africa, had an immense impact on my heart and the way I saw things. After 13 hours of travelling, we got a taxi that took us to Kilifi. My seats window was broken,...
2015-03-30 With bacon and banana filled tummies, we left for Jordan. On the airport we found out that our entire route got changed because war broke out in Yemen. [This is probably the right time to say: A LIFE LIKE NO OTHER] After 32 hours of travelling, and no sleep due to the fact that Geneke and I would rather explore and take selfies with stuffed camels on Dohas airport. Jordan, oh Jordan!! I have always wondered why people living in the desert, paint their houses the color of the desert. It just doesn't make any sense to me!!...
I remember the day I went to my first Leadership forum meeting. I literally only knew one person and today, with a heart overflowing with thankfulness, I can say that strangers became family, brothers and sisters in Christ. New things are just around the corner, but that doesn't mean forgetting. After 7 weeks of being away from home, I got to go to church "one last time". Man, it was bittesweet. I will forever hold every memory close to my heart. Laughing, crying, dancing and singing. Oase gemeente has left its mark in my life. Jesus, Daddy, I celebrate...
