Batllama in Peru

Batllama in Peru
Peru was our last country and one of those places we moved around a bit so this will go place by place and cover our flights back to SA. Mancora The yellow team arrived in Mancore, a beach chilling town place in north Peru in the semi desert, on the Monday 2 pm, the exact time that you could start booking into the backpackers we were staying at. Maxine and the Blue team was already there and greeted us when we got there. The 3 days in Mancore was a rest and recovery time for the team and to...

Luke10ing in Ecuador

Luke10ing in Ecuador
So for our time in Ecuador we did our Luke 10 journey and so much happened that I am afraid to start writing about it. For now I will just say this: The journey is a faith journey based on Luke 10 that states Luk 10:3 Go your way; behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves. 4 Carry no moneybag, no knapsack, no sandals, and greet no one on the road. 5 Whatever house you enter, first say, 'Peace be to this house!' 6 And if a son of peace is there, your peace...

Crazy Guatemala

Crazy Guatemala
Were to begin, where to begin...... Our time in Guatemala was spent on a few very different things and so much happened that I can not give a chronological exposition of our time there, but broke it into pieces, from the crazy to me (with me of course the least crazy :P ) Triking Triking, where to begin... The best description that I can give is that you take a bike; grind off the back end; weld a round steel bar to the back with a rod and two small wheels with no traction in it and try to fit...

Hitch-hikers guide to Central America

Hitch-hikers guide to Central America
Start and El Salvador The 6 days of travelling down to Panama and a staying in Panama turned out to be a very interesting time. It started with a 6am pick-up from Panajachel to take us to the TICA bus station in Guatemala City. Due to some saving in Guatemala and wanting to get to Panama as soon as possible to meet up with Elsabe we managed to buy bus tickets to San Jose in Costa Rica, the country next to Panama, only leaving us 800-900 km to hike and one border crossing in stead of the full 1700-1800 with...

Mexico to Guatemala

Mexico to Guatemala
Cancun airport We arrived in Cancun and got through immigration with no problems, we even went as far as to ask them about the required flight tickets out that we were forced to buy from Cubana air and were told that it is not true. We gathered our bags and went into the departures part of the airport to see if we can get someone from Cubana air to talk to, but the Cubana air ticket counter was closed. We settled in and went in search of a few things, info was helpful and told us that the Cubana air...

Cuba V2

Cuba V2
Week 3&4 The last 2 weeks in Cuba we were more involved in some of the ministry of the church. We had the opportunity to lead some of the youth church meetings and it was great to see how they interacted and engaged in what we did and how they wanted to learn. We did a lot to take them out of their comfort zone and had some meeting on the roof of the church, did the toothpaste drama (and I took part it was really disgusting and not so disgusting at the same time) and made them do a...

Cuba V1

Cuba V1
First impressions and getting there My first impressions of Cuba was when we landed at the airport, while waiting to go to immigration an old movie was playing (it looked as if it came from the 50's) with subtitles in Spanish that has been redone since you can see the old subtitles blurred out like in a bad pirated movie. The next funny moment was as I were going through security after immigration, all the security and airport personal woman wore miniskirts and fishnet stockings, I had to try very hard to keep my laughter in. The country itself is...

Cayman Turtle Island

Cayman Turtle Island
We started Cayman with an easy airport entrance and being picked up by miss Erna, our host for the time there. And we were so blessed, we stayed in miss Erna's second house across from her house, this meant that we had a big house to stay in and what is more it had warm water!! It was also stocked with food, but warm water so good (I hoped that by this time I would be used to cold showers, but no warm water still makes me happy). We were really spoiled while we were there. The 10 days in...
