Guatamala is propably not the first country that comes to mind if you think of a holiday destination. Well I can just confirm that it is worth spending time in this country. Apart from the people that are very friendly it is also reasonably cheap and have majestic sceneries.
Our time in Panajachel (town in Guatamala) was mainly used for building projects. We linked with a local church and assist them with the various projects that they are involved in.
I had to leave the team though to travel back to SA for my sister's wedding. I have started my 7 day journey from Panajachel to SA on Friday 8 August. When we arrived at the Mexican border we were delayed for about 4 hours as the border post was closed due to a protest by the locals because of high electricity prices.
During the 4 hour waiting period you start making talks with the other travelers and soon we were 4 people that are about to travel to San Cristobal (Town in Mexico). A interesting combination of people, Maria (Norway), Jesus (Mexico), Dino (Korea) and me (SA). On the way Dino and me had 'n discussion about religion and so I explained what I believe.
Arriving at San Cristobal we all checked into a backpackers and went out for dinner. After dinner Maria and Jesus (it almost sounds as if I quote out of the Bible) went back to the hostel while Dino and me explored the town. We continued our discussion about Christianity and at the end of the evening Dino decided to accept Christ's sacrifice for his sins. All honor to God.
Can you please pray that the Holy Spirit will keep minister to Dino as he is traveling on his own and don't have any Christian influence. Another testimony of how the body of Christ should work together is that today a friend(family) contacted me asking for Dino's address as he want to send him a Korean Bible. This is very encouraging to see how the body of Christ are concerned about each other.
Blessings
Hector
