God is all I need

Screenshot_2019-06-16-19-06-5_20190712-035528_1
The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. Psalms 23:1 NLT I read The Heavenly Man and realized what it meant to live a life knowing that God is all that we need. Brother Yun (The Heavenly Man) went through the most difficult situations. He was thrown into prison 3 times and there he was treated horribly. He was tortured and starved and through it all he still sang praises to God with a joyful heart. He had nothing to hold on to except God. And that was enough. That is how he made it day after...

A heart of flesh, a heart like Jesus

7006B916-61C4-4AF5-B14D-EBC202189A8F
Sometimes we have a hardened heart against certain groups of people, for some rich people it will be against the poor and homeless; even some races have hardened hearts toward each other. This all causes conflict, hate, judgement, etc.   That makes it difficult to serve and love people like Jesus loves them. I fully understand why people are like that. It is a hardening of our hearts over a long period of time, a sense of being better another group of people, being above them.   There are many varying causes to this:   history, wrong belief systems, cultural...

Provision around every corner

IMG-20190524-WA000_20190602-175302_1
I remember landing in Mumbai feeling very owerwhelmed, knowing in the back of my mind that we only have R1500 in our budget for five days in India, a layover that truly caught us by surprise. The R1500 was needed for accommodation, transport and food for nine people. So we started our journey, first making our way through customs and soon to the streets of Mumbai, carrying our 20-23kg bags, walking to the very cheap accommodation our travel team has booked for us. We were not walking very long when God's provision already showed up in the form of two...

The bird in the cage

a_bird_in_a_cage
I've recently been given the opportunity to enter the households of several Syrian refugees. This concept might seem frightening or uncomfortable to most, but some men and women actually travel from all across the world to come and play a part in this global crisis. I've even had the privilege of getting to know a few volunteers whom have commited themselves to serving these households on a more permanent base. For myself, however, it's been an encounter with the reality of the situation in the Middle East - and not just the pictures we watch on a screen from the...

Ups and downs

images.jpeg-1
We all get those days where we feel down and think we're not going to rise again. It's in those times that we really want a comforter.    Some of the downs that I had resulted in me being angry and restless. The impact of the storm was big and I wanted to get out. I tried, but I failed. Hope was disappearing and I wondered whether the storm will get to an end. Is there a solution? Can someone maybe help me? I was caught in this storm for a few days. It tossed me around and didn't respect...

The beauty of walking on water

IMG_20190607_014039
As   I was admiring the waters on which Jesus calmed a storm with a few words, the Holy spirit reminded me of when Peter walked on the water to Jesus.   Staring at the peaceful waters of the sea of Galilee, admiring the hills from afar.. This is where Peter had to let go of his fears, doubts, worries, anxieties and just trust. He stepped out of that boat on to that water and walked toward Jesus. He had to keep his eyes fixed on Jesus and just trust that He won't let him drown. Imagine.. Realizing you have...

Live without a bubble

13631982_14707198650719_rid6

Like in the movie Bubble boy, we as humans tend to live in a bubble, a space where we feel save and comfortable to live our lives. But we go in to defence mode and attack people when ever thay threaten our bubble. The same goes with religion.

Work in progress

IMG-20190511-WA0055
Many times on journey and in Jordan while we are serving, I almost felt arrogant to say or even imply that it often feels like maybe God is also serving us? The Bible explains that God's character never changes and that He is always stays the same. Can I maybe imply that the creator of the universe still serves us with the same servent heart as His only Son, the Son He send to save the world and the same Son that said that if you want to know the Heavenly Father, look to Me. Not seeing God's provision, protection...

A land of contrasts

IMG_6750
Black is standing next to white. Rich and poor is going through the day doing their daily tasks. Billion dollar buildings are towering above Mumbai while the slums decorate the background. You will find clean competing with dirty. Contrasts are the clothes India wears with a face of friendliness shining like the beams of a torch.    We might have had plans, but God had better plans waiting for us. The team thought India was going to be a restful 5 days, but it was completely the opposite. God directed our path in India in such a way that He...

UGANDA

IMG_4874
It's important to realize that God is at work and we must just join Him. My time in Uganda was a time of taking hands with others and reaching out. We didn't bring an agenda, we only joined God with what He is busy doing in Uganda.    It's sometimes tough to sit and listen for 3 hours to a group of people, but God taught me a valuable lesson. Every day belongs to Him, we must just surrender. It was wonderful to talk to the people in the ghettos and hear their stories. They touched my heart so deeply...
