I love my home. It is where family is. It is where I grew up and was given grace in the process of growth. It is my safe space and place of rest. It is a place of sharing. Home is more than the walls and the things inside it. It is where adventure and discovery occurs...which brings me great joy. Walking into Global Challenge has given me exactly what I believe to be like home. I've only been here a month but already I have been challenged in my doing and thinking. I learn a lot about Jesus and...

"For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.” Romans 12:4-5 NKJV In Nepal Jesus took each of us as individual members of this family on an individual and personal journey. Each one of us as members of the body, unique and different had something else to learn in order to make the body as a whole stronger. This was a country with many memories, miracles and messages. For many of the team it was...
Luke 10 for 10 days. The Bible tells us to go heal the sick and share that the Kingdom of God is near. We are to go with peace, but without money. We went from Cancun to Guatemala. I would urge you to look at a map and see it for yourselves. I learned a lot in the past 10 days, through broken Spanish, since no one in the team could speak it, hitchhiking and giving your biggest smile so cars would stop, no food for a few days, dehydration, enjoying the scourging heat at the back of a Bakkie,...
Frankfort Echo Farm in the Free State was a jol ! Our team served there for two weeks and it was incredible to contribute to something way bigger than ourselves. The farm is almost entirely off grid, which meant no signal (unless you walk a few kilo’s to a random bush at the top op the farm), no electricity, rats and bats as roommates and often lekker cold showers. Oh yeah, now that’s what I’m talking about ! In between the dirty feet, callused hands and a little sunburn, I really experienced true freedom. Our team is closer now than...
The year started with an awesome survival camp in the bush for one week. It was a good but hard experience! After survivor blessing. We had a lot of teachings and sermons on how to evangelize. The one and only Work Your Way team got the privilege to build a tire swing for the children at Itemba in J-bay. It was loads of fun and great to invest time and effort in the community. Then we heard the news that we are going on a 2 week mission in the Transkei. One week in Coffee bay and one week in Canzibe. The first...
To the clang back home, this is just an update of how the team is doing and our experiences in Rio De Janeiro. So after saying a few teary goodbyes to our new friends in Sao Paulo, we, the green te6am, travelled by bus during the night to Rio De Janeiro. We were all very excited to embark on this leg of the journey, experiencing the city known for it's famous carnival, gang rivals and tourist attractions. But on our arrival at first glance the city did not fully meet our expectations or match the pictures we painted...
Honestly I am not a writer but I will just talk about what the Lord has placed in my heart and something He has been challenging me with for the past month since I arrived, in South Africa, for my training. I am an introvert. I love my personal space. People don't always excite me. I mean they do for like 5 minutes and then I am like oh my gosh ,what have I gotten myself into. So being at Global has been a great challenge for me. I am around people 24/7. Being around so many people has exposed...
You're never going to say it all, but if you want to say most of what moved you and why, it helps to say it soon. The pearl of Africa is an allusion used by many to define Uganda. I often wonder what Jesus meant when he used a similar allusion, "don't throw your pearls before pigs." I have a hunch suggesting pearls and pigs, like light and darkness or good and evil, can't associate with one another. Reflecting on two moments in Uganda, I can't help but recognize what it's like to eat the food of pigs when pearls...
How precious are friendships not? To be quite honest I arrived in Jordan thinking we will not form very close bonds with these people thus will it not be so difficult to say goodbye after two weeks. False. Doing life with people, caring for each other, seeing someone in the waking stages of their morning asking how you have slept, sharing food, sharing victories and sorrows in the ministry - these kind of actions forms special kind of bonds quickly and deeply. Before you realize it you are opening your heart to a friend who two weeks before was a...
Our time in Thailand was great. We arrived in Bangkok and the team split into two groups. One group went to Phuket while the other group went to Takua Pa. I was in the group that went to Phuket and there we painted a kinder garden for two weeks. God provided and blessed us in abundance through many people on countless occasions. During our time there, we did some Bible study on the book of Philippians and it was great to discover Paul’s sacrificial lifestyle and to see how he remained joyful in all circumstances. We also met up with...
