The week in the Holy Land was a big experience. It left both a bitter and sweet taste in our mouths. Seeing where Jesus where born, did many miracles, died and rose again was very sweet indeed. The conflict between Israel and Palestine was more bitter. We stayed in a coptic convent and was served by two very loving sisters. The night we arrived we received a feast of chicken and all kinds of vegetables which really gave the week a good start. We were informed about Jerusalem by a great friend of Global challenge and her insight about the history of...

After the heat and humidity of Asia, we were absolutely delighted to walk into an icy Australia where we did not always have the sweat glow on our foreheads and we could finally use our Global Challenge jackets every day! :) Australia was defiintely full of learning experiences... learning how to debark a tree, learning how to cut down a tree, learning how to plant the stumps for the fence, how to ride a scrambler, how to ride a horse and how to actually build a fence!* We as yellow team were not assigned to a specific job together, so...
In Jamaica I discovered why the word "challenge" is at the centre of ''Global Challenge Expeditions''. How ironic that the pastor's wife gave a sermon on the very first Sunday in which she repeated the phrase: ''Challenges, troubles, trials'' almost 50 times in a time frame of an hour. On the day we arrived in Kingston, half of our team was sick. Most had Chick-V fever, which is caused by some musquito (not very hard to believe since we lived in a musquito nest in Guyana). I on the other hand, had a VERY random pins-and-needles irritation on my arms...

Cambodia Hello all you beautiful people. Our journey is coming to an end and time is really flying by fast! Cambodia was a time of lots of mixed emotions. Like Andrew, the missionary with whom we work here said: “In Cambodia you can go from hopeless to hopeful in less than an hour”. Andrew is a missionary from South Africa. He is married to a Cambodian woman and gives English classes as an additional source of income here in the Capital of Cambodia, Phnom Penh. He took us to all the interesting places here in and...
Many are aware of our tragedy, when one day before we had to leave on our journey, Dunette’s mother was in a terrible motorcycle accident, and even now still in a coma. We were devastated; we cried, prayed and have been dealing with so many emotions. However, as Christians we are not without hope. Some say it is opposition from the evil one, others that it is just fatally random, and more that it is a test from God. Be what it may, we still know that God does not waste suffering, but like burnt grass grows...

It took one phone call to change our entire situation; one phone call completely changed our position, changed our spirits and changed our attitudes towards God. These last three days has been an unimaginable experience into the work speed of God, God-speed; a time of being awestruck in the reality of what happens when you wait on the LORD, and He starts moving. The summary goes something like this: I swam in the Amazon with the locals where piranhas were caught, ate alligator meat, slept on the roof of the boat with my tent and got wet, bathed with...
The passion and intensity of the first generation Christians that we have met will always stay with me.
At first sight we thought that we were back in South Africa. After all the the countries we've visited so far Portugal felt the most like home! The longer we stayed the more it became true. We were feeling more and more at home and after 10 days when we had to leave, it was very hard! The host parents we stayed with played a huge role in this. Peter and me stayed stayed with Manuelle, Alda, their 2 daughters and two sons. They really treated us like family! We had great times playing with the 2 sons that was both in primary...
