Roller skating 10years back...

First she just walked into our room... "Who do you think you are... Do Chinese people have no manners? And no, I do not feel like roller skating tonight! I'm lazy, by bed is warm and I seriously do not feel like trying to figure out what you say over loud music... These I have to admit were my thoughts when our funky Chinese friend came to fetch us for our roller skating date...

The Departure!!

The great day has arrived!! Today we are flying to Egypt!!! My childhood, school, university and training are all building blocks of my past on which I stand on...  I have a choice to make..... Am I going to let go of every bit of security I think I have to cling onto Jesus Christ with all that I am...   My response to this question can simply be this.... YES LORD, here I am!!!   Pray for my and my team for our protection, pray that we will be Christ's representatives where ever we go! I am praying for...

Athens and Turkey

Athens and Turkey
Hello friends, Here is an update on my journey. Again the pictures will tell the stories. This is our plane that took us to Madrid. We had to fly to Greece via Madrid. In Greece they had a strike so we had to wait on the runway for 3 hours before we arrived in Athens. When we finally arrived we could not found any transport because of the strike and had to sleep on the airport. The next morning the strike was over and we could use the brilliant public transport system of Greece. This is the view from outside...

Prayer changes things....

The time in turkey for me was AMAZING ( and no it is not controrary on my last blog, it is because of that and because of what God has done through that that even though it was difficult it was still a GREAT TIMEA) I got confronted with so many things and so many ways that we live our life in South Africa, and God really came and revealed to me what it really means to Give up everything to Serve him, i met people that lost their jobs, their families, their friends, their whole life just because they...

"I do so like Green eggs and Ham!"

On this journey we have eaten many weird and wonderful traditional foods, so when Emme and I went on our Ethiopian excursion we always opted for the cheap “familiar sounding food”. That is, if we could decipher the horrible spelling on the menu. We just always had ‘cheeps’ (chips), “cooed vegetable”(cooked vegetables), or “spaget” (spaghetti). Our budget did not allow for “stake” (it could be steak or the thing to kill vampires with), calculator chicken (chicken with a side serving of calculators?) or “meet with rice”(a date with a dude called Rice?) On our way back to Addis Ababa to meet up with our team again, the Japanese girl we shared a taxi with suggested we try the traditional Ethiopian dish called “Bisto”. We ordered it very hesitantly and waited anxiously, expecting something like eyeball soup or cow hooves! Much to our delight it turned out to be a very delicious spicy meat sauce served with two loaves of bread.

Capital City or Desert Oasis? (EA beginnings part 10)

Capital City or Desert Oasis? (EA beginnings part 10)
The long stretch of road across the desert to Nouakchott was very adventurous. It was exciting to think we were busy cruising across the Sahara.     Even though the landscape stayed pretty much constant, the people were changing. Their skin colour became darker as we moved south and soon it was obvious that we had left the European-like Morocco behind and we were entering into the more familiar images of Africa.   Nouakchott was so much African that the sudden change from Morocco was a shock on our systems. It didn't help that we arrived very late at night...

REAL LIVING HOPE – 100% Indian!

REAL LIVING HOPE – 100% Indian!
India definitely has the ability to grow on you...figuratively, and thinking about it probably literally as well – but then I will advise you to consult your doctor as soon as possible.    I.N.D.I.A ...a land overflowing with street vendors and the famous, but very unpopular squeaky horn. The streets are full of random street cows, the smell of masala, buzzing crowds, thousands of stray dogs, crazy trains, Hindu gods, snake charmers, sari wearing ladies and strings of orange flowers  - all wrapped up in a culture so thick you can taste it. During my previous visit to India I...

Turkey!!!

Hey everyone!   We, North bound team, had the most blessed time in Turkey.  We had some visitors during this time.  Tannie Dini, Marlize (goggatjie), tannie Fielie and tannie Nita.  It was a priviledge to have them as visitors.  They brought so much flavour to the group.  They were really a big blessing to us.   We stayed in a city on the coast of Turkey, called Kusadasi (the place of birds).  Kusadasi is a very beautiful city.  We stayed at a camping site and we had so much fun there.  We stayed there for our whole visit to Turkey.   ...

Our most basic need: Agape love.

Our most basic need: Agape love.
“Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!” – 1 John 3:1a.  In my primary, as well as high school, we had to study the general needs of people in Life Orientation. We would be presented two columns, on the one side the heading would read “Needs”, and the other column would read “Wants”. So every year the teacher would draw the two columns on the black board, and we would put up our hands to help her fill in each column. I guess I remember this tradition so...
