The Superhero Comparison

The Superhero Comparison
This whole Global Challenge has been tough. I've really been struggling to fit into my team and to find my purpose. I spoke to my leader and she said a few things that was needed, but I want to tell you about two things. Fitst she said that you're value is not in your purpose, it is in who you are. Second thing is that we are not human doings, we are human beings. I am not going to elaborate on that, but think about it. Anyway, continuing. It went really bad with my emotional and spiritual state. I started...

Last thoughts on Explore Africa 2016

Last thoughts on Explore Africa 2016
That we may know Him...this is our only desire. Africa, my Africa In this place corruption brews in governments, injustice flows through the rifles of child soldiers and poverty strikes the poorest of poor. Yet beauty abounds in its sprawling jungles, mighty desert dunes and raging rivers; is evident in the eyes of the humble farmer, the joyful singing of the women and the innocent actions of the locals. That we may know Him... We have been exposed to different ways of thinking and living, we saw the crippling effects of poverty and disease and searched God’s heart for answers...

Lime Team in Thailand

Lime Team in Thailand
Our Time in Thailand began when we were greated at the airport by this friendly family.  Isaiah the pastor with his wife Malai and little daughter, Nam Home and Son, Nam Pouh.  They came all the way to take us to the little island we would be spending most of our time in Thailand.  To help serve at a little christian refuge for girls that were abused and mistreated.  On this little island we did some other work and had the huge opportunity to build the toilet of the first church.  I will take you through our journey...

Incredible India- experiencing God’s provision first hand!

Words can hardly describe what India is like, let alone sum up 6 weeks of ministry, new experiences, strange cultural habits, Hindu idol worship, hot food and spices, spiritual warfare unlike any we have ever known, smells and sights of poverty known but ignored by the western world, personal struggles and attacks, disbelief at personal growth and change throughout the year, but also experiencing the power of prayer and the very real presence of God in the lives of children so small their faith touches your inner being and makes you wonder why you’re not living the life you have been called to live-to be in constant communion with the Lord and in step with the Spirit! What an example of faith!

Wide open spaces

Wide open spaces
Grace. It's a beautiful thing. The one word that we have really journeyed on this year. And every day I continue to learn more and more. And of course our Luke 10 journey was no different. Grace. The only reason why the God of the universe in His all-knowingness would choose to speak to us, in our brokenness, in our selfishness, in our little faith. The only reason why the God who is able to do all things chooses 4 South Africans to go to a small town in the Andes mountains of Ecuador. Grace. The reason why I am...

quick update on the GCex
From the get going we are busy help where we can. We had our first challenge and it was AWESUM. We spend basically the full day trying the complete the tasks that was given to us. Some of them was very easy like taking a photo here and there but some of them was to go to a different town with limited funds. This basically forced you to catch a lift. We were very lucky in finding someone that took us all the way and getting back was also not a problem. We also had to was some cars and...

Israel-Jesus smells like coconut and promises

Israel-Jesus smells like coconut and promises
23 April 2015.       Independence day- A day of celebration, music, dancing, partying all decorated with blue and white flags.     Walking down the highway in Tyberias I saw two men in a little white Kia, their faces looked like home! It was oom Wikus and Hennie hooting all the way! Excitement bubbled up in me, after not seeing loved ones for so long! We ended up eating Mc Donalds on top of the hill we pitched our tents on (it ended being someone's farm, haha) Our first two nights in Tyberias ended up being sleepless, because...

The river of death...

The river of death...
Growing up next to the ocean, I have always been drawn to water sources: oceans, lakes, rivers, waterfalls, etc. I find the rhythmic flow of water calming and soothing. Watching the constant eb and flow of the ocean evokes the feeling of all worries and troubles being carried away. At times of great trouble I have hurled stones into the waves, watching it disappear under the foam, as a prophetic act that I give the situation over to God. I associate water with God's grace and enjoy watching my troubles be engulfed by it. Once released from my captivating trance,...

How to build a bridge: 101

Crossing the riverDate:  9 February 2008
Place:  Masaiti Farming Institute
Activity: No class, but that means .... (bridges)

Building or working or doing something that requires fit muscles...
We were all building a bridge today.
We started by loading rocks into the tracter and trailler, but I still believe we loaded "boulders" into the trailler, and not rocks.
We then got to the place, unloaded the rocks, and started building the bridge.
