Normal 0 After breakfast the man dropped us off at a point in the road where the vehicles must drive slower due to lots of speed bumps in the road. We stood there, in the suffocating heat for a long time, praying and trusting for a lift to the next town. We got a lift on the back of a pickup truck to Mapa where we were dropped at a t-junction. After about 20 minutes we got a lift to a small café a few miles on. We drank a cool drink and tried to hitch...
Having church is a church that speaks the native Egyptian language (Coptic) is an amazing experience!!! We had church every night, but we could not understand a word they were saying, so while they were singing I just sat and was quiet before God........and I had this simple, yet significant revelation... He is so much more than we think!!! He is not just your Friend, your Father, your Teacher, your Protector and your Comforter.... He is also GOD almighty, Lord of all the heavens and earth, creator of the Universe!!!! "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of...
The Hammam So the two lovely South African ladies that organized our stay in Casablanca arranged for us that is those who wanted to, to have a truly Moroccan bath. So with a lot of excitement and a bit of anxiety we went to have a bath. On arrival the girls go one way and we guys the other. We, the guys, are ushered into a steam room and told to wait. (Not understanding the language this took some gesturing from two of the locals for us to finally understand.) After some time, we were called...
Are you coming to the war? Where fire burns and fear is great. There is no means of escape. Where Death is like a lingering shadow tracing behind His victims. Horrible things have happened here. This is where life and death meet face to face, in a battle to see who will win. This is the birth place of chaos and destruction, this is war. Today I saw a different life. A life filled with fear and anguish. A life that was consumed by flames. Today I saw true hopelessness. Today, I looked into the eyes of a war refugee. ...
The time we spent in Kuala Lumpur (KL), Malaysia was the most difficult part of the year so far. Everybody asked why? It is a wonderful and beautiful city, with friendly people, lovely food and a vibrant atmosphere. Why? Well, there are several reasons why. I was jealous because I wasn’t a part of the Thailand team. It was the country I was most excited to see, but then I stayed behind in KL. It was difficult, extremely difficult. Later on I realized that God chose me to be there and not Thailand; with this the green colour disappeared...
The land of spice, rice, colour, fabric, tea, rickshaws, idols, people, people and more people…Walking around in Delhi in the summer is not for the faint hearted. The scent of cow dung, incense, curry, chai tea, exhausts fumes and decomposing trash floods your senses and you struggle to absorb it all. It takes time for one to understand India and enjoy her, her mysterious beauty and her effortless glamour. Some never get the chance to grasp who she is and learn to love her and her people. They don’t know what they’re missing… On this four-week journey trough India I got...
When we came in for landing at Auckland, New Zeeland the words in Genesis came to mind: “...fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” The New Zealanders sure grasp this. And I thought that even though everyone does not have a relationship with the Lord, we are created in God’s image, and He gave us the knowledge and know how to rule over nature and subdue it without destroying it. Staring out of the small airplane window I...
After much over landing from Niger, through Benin we ended up in Togo for an unanticipated period of time. We have just come out of a significant time of the year where we stopped, in Egypt, to look back on the journey with a reflective and teachable attitude. The environment and beauty of the Red Sea and the rugged barren desert mountains in Egypt were definitely the most appropriate context in which to rest and review the first half of our journey. In addition to resting and looking back, we were greatly spoiled by God through generous people, the company...
