The answer was so obvious

maggie-en-ek.jpgA few times the past three weeks I've had the thought: “I would rather be here, than anywhere else in the world…”

These few words get new meaning when you are standing amongst the ruins of 72 burnt down shacks! The Red Hill fire-disaster in the Cape Peninsula caught a whole community by surprise, but I was certainly not prepared for what lied ahead of me as I drove along the road leading to the disaster stricken community for the first time.

After the fire comes the rain

rh-talks.jpg10 February 2008

“Rain means blessing,” said Clara Miles, Global Challenge (GC) Staff member.
We are standing in the pouring rain, looking over the Red Hill community that was destroyed by fire less than two days ago.
The rain is indeed an answer to prayer as it extinguishes the remaining fires and causes the dust and dry ash to settle.
The unique smell of burning wood extinguished by water hangs in the air.
It’s been an exciting day. The whole CPx (Church Planting eXperience) group from All Nations arrived in the morning to come and aid the community.

Fusagasuga Project Update & Prayer Support

To our supporters, family and friends of the Southbound team, Greetings from Bogota Colombia! As we write this we are getting ready to depart for Peru this morning via, Leticia, Iquitos, Lima and then to our final destination of Chiclayo by Friday. God has been faithful in meeting our needs so far and although we don't have the finances as yet to complete the whole trip without some hitching and faith journeying, we are trusting God to provide the rest of our needs in abundance (1 Cor 4:2; Matt 25:21)! Proverbs 10:22 was given to us as a team for our journey to Peru and we are walking in this by faith!

The greatest of these is LOVE!

We were busy feeding the village kids in Pemba when God spoke to me. It was so clear. This is what Jesus called us to do. To feed the hungry, to pray for the sick, to give the orphans a place to sleep, to love the widows, to love the lost and to free people in bondage. To be Jesus's hand and feet. This is what Jesus did and this is what we are called to do. This is what the Gospel of Jesus asks of us. The problem is that we sometimes believe the Gospel of Jesus but we...

Training 2013

Since I arrived in Jeffreys Bay I have learnt so much about God and who He is. Training has been such a great blessing and it is such a great privilege to be able to dwell on God's word and be in the presence of other young people who are seeking God's heart. Every day I am learning more about what it means to die in ourselves, and it is a continuous process but I trust that this is something that God will help me with throughout the year.  I have also learnt so much about the freedom that lies in...

Finding God in London

Finding God in London
I saw the Tower Bridge lift and heard the Big Ben sound. I saw Trafalgar, Westminster and Hyde Park ... places only heard about in movies and newspapers - "MUST visits". I saw castles, shops and had so many options of places to visit that I couldn't pick one! I thought that's what London was about, and that's the kind of stuff I'm gonna tell at the end of it. Come to think of it, I didn't really think it was the kind of place where you're gonna see the God of the Bible alive and working -...

Storm in NZ

Storm in NZ
The colder temperatures of Nieu Zealand were very refreshing after the humidity of India. We arrived in Auckland around 26 June and spend a week of debriefing and recharging at a beautiful place just north of Auckland, Algies Bay. We were really spoiled by the Kiwi South Africans (potjiekos and koeksisters) who took care of us. Thank you all. Six of the team; Tobi, Wesley, Kobus, Margot, Zylna and me went down to Wellington from 5 -12 July where we joined a local church' winter program called STORM which is a acronym for Service To Others Really Matters. The team...
