Wrapping up Morocco

Wrapping up Morocco
Morocco welcomed us with a night at the airport where we had to sleep through the sound of hammers and chisels ceaselessly building away on a new part of the airport.    In Marrakech we stayed over for two nights. The vibrancy and colours of the markets overwhelmed and mesmerised. Rooftop views and coffees became a frequent enjoyment as well as prayer walks through the mazed streets. In the mornings we watched the sun rise over Marrakech and prayed together there.   Fes was our next destination, once we got there after a long bus ride we were graciously scammed...

WHAT IF???

Written by: Mari Jansen van Rensburg   You always think "what if", what if I've taken that trip, what if I'd only said yes. At the beginning of Global Challenge I had the same question - but God didn't wait on me to be ready - He just came and did what I didn't think would be possible. He changed my life, inside out!!!!   I grew up in a christian home and for that I am very grateful. But more than ever He is just revealing Himself to me in so many ways. I am going to share one...

Stormco

Stormco
What a great time I had in Wellington when a few of us Global challengers joined up with Stormco for ministry. Stormco is a New Zealand based ministry for young teens. Stormco is an acronym for Service To Others Really Matters and that's exactly what we did in the week. For the duration of the week we run a kids club in the mornings with the theme Avalanche Ranch, Wah Hoo! Many kids from the community attended the club and we had great fun with them. During the afternoons we would go out into the community and serve them by...

A blessed season: Drawing closer to Jesus.

So when you actually see the screen in front of you, all the revelations, wisdom, God has lent to you seems to transpire the words that flow through your mind. To try and put words to the Truths that God has shown me leaves me now with the feeling that I really should have written a blog long ago.  Thank You Lord, that that is the case. That you have done so much for me, have shown Yourself to me in so many ways, that explaining it leaves me without words. If you are reading this, and wondering: “Why did...

No-man's land

No-man's land
So I'll summarize our 2-day journey as follows: On our "comment/notes"-tab on the Excel spreadsheet of this country, I'll write "Not Recommended." Full stop. Not recommended travelling through (especially!), not recommended going to (definately not!) en not recommended climbing into a taxi with the local taxi driver (eish...). All right, so there is something I'll recommend for this country: I recommend that you pray for it! Our journey consisted of an on-going 36hours through 3 different countries. We travelled in a short-seated minibus, over a river on a glorified canoe, 9 people in a 6-seater Peugot, Then 20 hours with...

"Chaos in Casablanca" The beginnings of Explore Africa- part 6

"Chaos in Casablanca" The beginnings of Explore Africa- part 6
Finally the time came for the three different expeditions to each depart on their own adventures. Our first destination was of course Casablanca, Morocco, from where we would start making our way down to Cameroon in Central Africa. Along the way we would make longer stops to serve missionaries in Senegal, Mali, Niger, Nigeria and Cameroon.   From Nigeria we flew horizontally across Africa to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from where we continued on our southward journey to South Africa.   Our introduction into Morocco was hectic. After flying through the night we were looking forward to some rest at our...

Finish paving the way for the children to play

Finish paving the way for the children to play
We can't always finish what we started, but sometimes you actually get a second chance.  Let me take you back to 2011... Olanga Island.  If you've been following our blogs last year, this name might ring a bell.  Before going there, we heard it's a beautiful island in the Visayas Region of the Philippines, but the community is very poor, with many families earning only $1.00 (R7.00) a day.  The whole island is made up out of coral rock.  They told us about the school inside the church and how the kids needed a safe playground. Southbound 2011 started this...

Victory, in this case came in the form of a mopped floor.

Kosovo has been good! My mother said she was going to step into interceding for me and it is amazing how powerful prayer is! I feel like this is the most God has ever revealed of Himself to me. It started with being met by love when I was vulnerable ( dancing and singing like a mad person). A lot of healing happens when you show yourself and in return get a standing ovation from a Star Breather. So imagine this scene. There are three judges and the contestant reluctantly steps out on the stage. Music starts and this poor...
