Cuban Tourist

This is one of the most intense, unpredictable, mind blowing, captivating, speechless processes I have been through in my life. Some days I just sit and stare because I don't even know where to begin processing or debriefing or evaluating the experience. Like a blank space just fills my head. I get up, take a shower, get on a truck with 14 other people, and go help clean a yard. And then it happens. That unpredictable thing. The pastor tells you that it is a gift from God that the team came today because it's almost their two year birthday...

Broken to be made whole...

Repentance is like breaking out kitchen cupboards.  It's fun if you're the one doing the breaking, but it hurts to be the cupboard.  Everything inside of you gets exposed - you have nowhere to hide anything, anymore.  Every single thing that has ever been placed inside you, needs to be removed.  You, the old cupboard, has to be thrown away; it can't be fixed, it has to be replaced with a new one.  The way you are now, is completely useless.  You need the Carpenter to give you a new body.  And He's already done it in you.  Religion says:...

AUS update

AUS update
We went to Sydney on one of the weekends, which was amazing. We went to Hillsong and saw the opera house, its cool but I thought it was bigger. We are working on a farm doing all kinds of odd jobs. The sheep farm didn’t work out but God made sure we had a place to be. We are feeding horses and copping out trees all kinds of things that need to get done. It is so cold here, yesterday it started to snow! It was my first time in snow!! Thank You Jesus! I loved the snow but never...

Pledged to God

Predestined for greatness? Who? Me? Ha-ha God.. Nice one. Oh! You're serious?? I still remember how my heart pounded in my chest the first day of training. January 11th. How scared I was. New faces. New people, and still the same old me. Who are you God? Who are you? As training progressed I remember feeling even more foggy. Even more useless. Who am I God??? Who am I????? Training was supposed to be a waist of time, or so I thought. But in the middle of the madness I found how broken I really was. This is me...

Jars of clay

F7FDABEF-451A-4E94-BE10-670CA8E2FA0F
In old Jewish culture, people would put precious purfumes and expensive oils in jars made from clay. These liquids where used only on special occasions,  and times of high importance or urgency. But the problem was that these jars were sealed shut after the content was poured in, to keep it safe. So now the only way to get the oil out to use it, was to brake the jar open. There was no screw-on lid for use and re-use. It had to be broken completely to get the good stuff out. Kenya was our first country we visited and...

Portugal- Sarah

1/29/08

On January 16th we landed in a country where only 1.6% of the people are evangelical Christian and only a mere 3% of the total population attends any sort of church.  This country is influenced by witch craft, idolatry, and atheism.  Most of the people lack the understanding of a personal relationship with Jesus.  It is a country in one of the most resistant mission fields and on the least evangelized continent.  Needless to say, our week in Portugal was very eye opening!

Learning in the Levant

Not just oil, sand and Islam, I've come to realise. The Middle East is an incredibly rich and deep spot on the globe. Egypt, being the first contact, eased us into the Arabic culture, being one of the most moderate Arab states. Although being there did have its challenges, coping with the otherness was not at all too difficult. I think I want to learn to speak Arabic, and Egypt may not be a bad choice for that either, as it is generally considered, by Westerners and Arabs alike, that their's is one of the most accessible dialects used. I...

Statues coming alive in the Peru!

[video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIQu4hsE59M 400x400] As a team we learnt a few dramas that we could perform to different audiences as we travel around. Erin and I ended up with the statue drama, where one person is seemingly dead like a statue and the person is doing their very best to play with them.I try to make jokes with her and play games but she doesnt respond. Dissappointed  I pray about what to do, then get a bible to share Gods word with my statue friend and try to explain the gospel to her. Eventually giving up Ipray for her. After a while Erin comes alive and is so excited to see the truth and start playing....
