The power of prayer in Morocco

“If people who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land” 2 Chronicles 7:14   Morocco bursts with colour, flavour, sounds, people and culture. It catches you by surprise if you don’t prepare yourself, but is this a case of being careful not to judge a book by its covers? With statistics such as a 99% Muslim population and having laws prohibiting evangelising, makes one wonder what is going on in...

Leaving a piece of my heart in Brazil...

Time flies when you’re having fun – with that we’re ending off our time in Ubatuba.  What a blessing it has been!  From the Brazilians I have learned that it’s important to make time for people and that building relationships is a big part of ministry.  O yes, on the picture with us is Elaine´s grandmom, she is 100 years old and still walks alone to the beach every day!

Thank God for aeroplanes

I have always loved aeroplanes. I remember the first time I flew (PE - Joburg) and how my eyes were glued to the window the entire flight, just marvelling in the geography lesson below that books could not teach me. Even after flying a few times I would find my neck being kind of stiff by the time that we land because I was looking through the window the entire time. There was a time when I convinced myself that I'm studying the right course because I might end up working in an airport, and even spend my one vacation...

AUSTRALIA- work Your way 2010

GCEX 2010 work Your way in AUSTRALIA   For sure I can say that my favourite country Australia has become this year. We were placed in a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains, where we served for two months with hard work and leading camps for children. Mountain Trails is a Christian camp, which works with different activities, like horse riding, dirt bikes, activities with ropes, etc. And through the activities will share the Gospel with the children.   We worked on different jobs, building fences for horses, building four little houses for "bike camps" cut and chop wood, jobs with...

1 Renault. 8 Sardines. (EA beginnings part 11).

1 Renault. 8 Sardines. (EA beginnings part 11).
Gone was the comfortable bus and train rides of Morocco and even to a degree Egypt. We were now in the land of trying to see how many people you can fit into small spaces. Our travels to Nouakchott was in two Mercedes-Benz taxi's. We would now complete the journey from the capital to the Senegalese border in one Renault station wagon! Including all our bags.   Somehow they convinced us it was an 8 seater. And it really was, just for very tiny people. Two or three bags fit in the back (of course the door had to be...

Indonesia – God's glory in a collection of Islands

Indonesia – God's glory in a collection of Islands
I apologize for taking so long to put this blog up. The couple of weeks have been quite challenging and we as a team experienced a lot of ups and downs. This made it difficult to look back on this time and to put everything that happened and everything that we experienced into words. From being in Padang, on the Island of Sumatra with our visitors (Arthur and Ashleigh's mothers and Paul and Clara from Global Challenge leadership), to flying to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and doing a Challenge there with the Work Your Way guys. Then spending little over...

India

21/04/2014 The country where your heart gets torn in two, and your soul cries out “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?".(Matthew 27:46) This Hindu-colony with its pack of gods, “Father, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they are doing.”(Luke 23:34) Where colonialism's deep, raw, wounds are still festering and the demonic-gods are indulging them in the hopelessness of this colony's ants. This is indeed an exotic colony, with exotic beings. If I think back to the three weeks I spent in India, I think of a tremendous number of mosquitos, the zooming of lots and lots flies around rotten food,...
