Running like the Mayans

Running like the Mayans
"Hou bene hou!" Running a race has always been lots of fun but having the oppertunity to run with the Mayan people has been one of the highlights of this year.  The six of us; Hector, Paul, Tiaan, Marisa, me and Tobi ran a 8km race here in Panajachel   We only started the race at 11:00am the morning so the sun was  scorching   hot, the  toughest challenge. We were all very excited and enjoyed the day in the sun with the local people.  Just to say that these people run up a mountain  like we run a downhill.  They spend most...

A painfully beautuful interdependance.

This kind of life is challenging me to the point of action. I am in awe of how I am so often humbled. Just when I think I know what life is about, I am reminded of my inability to live as I so believe I should, as well as my total ignorance. To live in a interdependant community with the core value of loving one another to life is very hard. We are called to pick up our cross daily, and we expect it to be comfortable.    This is where the magic of the upside-down Kingdom is giving...

Moving in faith!

Moving in faith!
With R50 a day for food, R50 a day for accommodation and R50 a day for transportation and that for  5 guys , we knew from the start that our time in Malaysia and Thailand was going to be a journey of faith and we knew that God was going to have provide.  And looking back he did and so much more. God blessed us more than we could have ever imagined with food, accommodation and transport, sending people over our paths to help us in times of need and giving us wisdom to make discussions. We started off in...

M E M O R I E S O F I N D I A

Stefan politely encouraged me to blog. I came accross something I wrote two years ago. Since then our involvement in India increased. It still is a tremendous priviledge to learn from the men you are about to meet.   The difference between hearing about and the experience of the same thing, is like the difference between smell and taste. It is why I believe in experiental learning and why I am convinced that the Lord wants to create a wineskin to disciple people in a context of exposure. However, I did not thought it will hit me personally as hard...

A goat on the bus, a goat in church....goat on my plate!

Goats Everywhere!! Welcome to Senegal..Welcome to Africa. I love Senegal.... From Mauritania we crossed over to Senegal, which is where we have been for the past two weeks. Senegal is a very special country. Up until Mauritania we had experienced Africa with a touch of Europe, even though poverty still remained a strong characteristic, but when we reached Mauritania we got a glimpse of 'rustic' Africa. Senegal is almost like the full realisation of the 'rustic' Africa. The humility and simplicity of the lifestyle is so full of richness. The country has a sense of contentment even in the...

Miracle in St. Louis (EA beginnings part 12)

Miracle in St. Louis (EA beginnings part 12)
We had no set up ministry in Senegal. So nobody was waiting for us anywhere (Our next place of ministry was only 3 countries later in Zinder, Niger). This is quite a daunting feeling since you then have to find all the transport and accommodation on your own.   My plan was to travel to Dakar, the capital, and from there send the team out on their own following only the principles found in Luke chapter 10 in the Bible. Usually quite an adventure.   But now we were still on the border and the day was growing late....

When God is busy with you….

Debrief in Hawaii made me think about all that happened the 1st forty days of our journey, more specifically in which ways God has been busy with me.  It is easy for me to become so focused on others, that when asked what God has been doing in my life, I really have to think about it.  Not that He has not done something, I just become so focused on what He is doing in others, that I overlook His working in my life.  I’m very thankful for a team leader who makes me think about these things… Since Egypt,...

Who told you you are naked?

Who told you you are naked?
Who told you you are naked? The enemy has been spreading lies about God's Children since time began. The sad story is...believe what he says! God got so angry when he heard that the Enemy said to Adam and Eve that they are not good enough...that they are naked in the Garden! Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” (Genesis 3:1 ESV) And he said, “I heard the sound...

Belize, Beliçe Belice, Beliiiiiiiiiiiiiize

During the month of July we spent the majority of our time in Belize.  We ministered in two towns namely; San Ignacio and San Pedro and experienced two different types of ministries and served the people in different ways. San Ignacio • Evangelizing in a rural town. • Teaching and preaching at a local church´s annual harvest festival. • Shows on the radio for children to listen to about the Bible. • Teaching children from the community dances and dramas   San Pedro • Praying for the team. • Street evangelism • Dug the foundation for a new church. • Teach and preach at the local church.
