Let us soak Morocco in prayer!

Are Muslims more difficult to reach than other people groups? Isn't God's power to reach the peoples of the earth infinate and is Islam no challenge for Him? Why does it sometimes feel like there's a wall around Muslims keeping them from seeing the truth and accepting it as the truth?   "Allah hath set a seal on their hearts and on their hearing, and on their eyes is a veil" (The Holy Qur'an) (Sura II v.7)   Satan, the god of this evil world, has blinded the minds of those who don't believe, so they are unable to see...

When Lions Worry...

mud-hut.jpgTwo families living in our valley were very interesting and probably eccentric. But as it is with true eccentrics, they would be the last to realize that. The children of these families attended the same farm school where we were, four lovely girls of the one brother and four cousins, the sons of the other brother. At some stage our parents took us out of the farm school and sent us to the city, probably concerned about the level of our education. This was where I first noticed that when I told people about the ordinary life where we grew up, they gave one another a knowing look. As if I was exaggerating.

God is not a Mzungu

I learnt many new words while in Zanzibar. Amongst others, one that apparently describes me: "Mzungu". That's the Swahili word for Europeans, though quite derogatory. According to my new friend, Ussi, a venerable Zanzibari wiseman, the name comes from the "mzunguka", meaning "one who comes and goes", which was first used to describe the white explorers of earlier centuries, the likes of Vasco da Gama and David Livingstone. Today, the word is thrown around willy-nilly mostly by dala-dala drivers trying to make an extra couple thousand shillings off unsuspecting tourists who never stay long enough to know better.  Zanzibar,...

Shika Yesu - "Hold on to Jesus"

Shika Yesu - "Hold on to Jesus"
We leave something of ourselves behind when we leave a place. We stay there even though we go away, and there are things in us that we can find again only by going back there. Kenya is such a place. It is truly like Narnia.  There is something beautiful  about Kenya that is thousands of years old. Too old to be truly captured by poems and songs. Loved by everyone, loved so very deeply. Kenya is everything real in a world of make believe.    But even though I left some part of me behind, I also found...

To the golden shore

Today I was very privileged to finish the book I was reading while serving somewhere in China. The book is called "To the golden shore" and is the biography of Adoniram Judson, the first missionary that was ever send out by America. I am truly humbled by the life of this man. He left his family never to see them again, he buried 2 wives and 3 children. He was imprisoned for almost 2 years and it took 6 years before the first Burmese person  accepted Christ. He spend almost 50 years away from home and gave up everything to serve Christ. I...

Northbound Israel

Isreal though the eyes of one of our team memebers. I'd like to share a bit on our adventure in Israel up to now. We came here without knowing where we would stay, what we would do or how we would afford to eat (tight budget as you know;) or how we would get around. But as always God provided and we were taken in by John and Amanda, a couple from South Africa who have been living in Israel for more than 25 years, taking in groups of people and teaching them about Israel's incredible truths. We thought that...

The beginning of a new journey...

The beginning of a new journey...
As I am planing the next 80 Days for November I reflect on God's faithfulness in my life.   Last year me and Francois were blessed to host the first 80 days around the World journey.  this morning my heart rejoiced over the places we've, seen, new friends that we have made and the wonderful team that we've shared our lives with.    The essence of this journey is to discover God and His world,  and to get myself out of my own little world.   "What have is the main thing that you've learned on this first 80 Days trip? " I...
