"As a man is, so he sees"

When we first got into mainland, China, I thought “O boy, this is going to be a looong month for me.”  You see just about everything here is some shade of brown or grey (and covered in dust) and that is something that can get you down if you are used to a country abundant in color.

God's Splendor

gcx_zambia_022.jpgGod is truly amazing! He wants to give you your dreams but you first have to trust Him and say from your heart okay Lord I give you it all.

All my life I’ve wanted to see the Victoria Falls in all its splendor. So no matter how I’ve made plans or worked things out it just never seemed to become a reality. Even as we’ve traveled up to Zambia we’ve had to get a pic at the Vic Falls for our challenge. All the way there we talked about how we ARE going to do it and oh how we’ve dreamed about it. Well at the last moment… guess what? It didn’t happen!

Memories of Thailand

Memories of Thailand
The time in Thailand was a huge blessing to me. After China, it was great to do some physical work, and to be in a country where I can just wear my shorts and slip slops. We spent most of our time in Thailand building and helping out Pastor Wasun in his ministry. It was a great learning school to me, as it was my first time building. I realized how much there is to know about it, and how much I enjoyed it. At times it got a bit frustrating and I got tired of working with my hands,...

Peru – the land of highs and very highs…

After experiencing many miracles traveling from Colombia to Peru, via the Amazon I must add, we arrived in Chiclayo.  To mention but a few, we slept on the pier waiting for our 16 hour speedboat ride on the Amazon; ran out of petrol and drifted in the Amazon for about 2 hours, which ended up in a praise&worship session on the roof of the boat; slept inside a locked airport, all by ourselves; overnight bus ride from Lima to Chiclayo – which only cost us R70!

The get together...

For us as orange team this was a pretty hard time since half of as stayed in Thailand and the rest of us went to Malaysia. I can however say that joining up again was great and we instantly started to share stories and felt back at home. We surprised the girls with some orange juice, balloons and yes chocolates.   We also made food for the south bound and it was a great success. We decided as south bound to do this so we can save on expenses and as we found out on time as well. It also...

Not what I signed up for...

Doing Global Challenge has been a dream of ours for a very long time and after more than a year of preparation and planning it was time for that dream to become a reality. 2012 was going to be the year in which we take our step in faith and say “Yes Lord, we will follow!”

The tropical pilgrimage continues

The Tropical pilgrimage continues Some time has past since our last sea gull letter exchange. Since then, I have sold the flock of sea gulls and have climbed aboard a dung Beatle who promised to take me overland. After our boat trip on the Amazon, she docked in Manaus, Brazil. My band of travel companions were welcomed by friend of friends who took us in for the night. We slept on blowup mattresses, on somebody's second floor. In the morning shopping was done for three days worth of road snacks. Gathering ourselves we took a day long bus ride. The...

Turkey for thanksgiving

I am so thankful for:  African time; it is better than Turkish time, free public toilets, the SPCA, understanding Afrikaans, 'n lekker Braai, wearing shoes in the house, western toilets, Yum Yums double crunch peanut butter, google translater, an open window in a truck with a smoker driver for 7 hours, not having my pasta taken and hidden away by my team, not waking up to the sound of ziplock packets opening, not being called the spice girls or Charlie's angels by every merchant in the market but above all, I am so thankful for these things because they have...
