Palmtrees and Poverty, Waves and Washing lines

Palmtrees and Poverty, Waves and Washing lines

Picture yourself under a palm tree with the breeze in your hair looking out into the crystal clear blue green ocean with the waves breaking on the white sand.

Sounds like paradise right? Wrong.

India, I'm ready!

By: Elizma

I look out the airplane window, and way down I see the country of India. From up here it still is only patches of different shades of brown, patches I've never seen before. But somehow I still write in my Bible, next to Isaiah 61, the text received for this country: "FIRST time on airplane to India". How much more are there gonna be ...?

Building of lives...and buildings

Normal 0 Way up in the mountain with an awesome view over Lake Atitlan, we had the opportunity to build a house for a family.   Over the course of the week we had several tasks to complete. We had to build steps that lead to the house, the new building and build up a wall to prevent further erosion by the water coming down from the mountain. The first day on site started out by collecting stones of various sizes from all over the mountain to start with the first steps while some of the others started to work...

Northbound and Work-your-way reunite in India!

Northbound and Work-your-way reunite in India!
We have finally arrived in Delhi from Varanasi, India. I can truely testify to seeing how God provides when we are in total dependance of Him. As a team we have had an amazing yet very challenging time in Varanasi. We were blessed to really experience how God brought light and truth to people in this very oppressed place... Ganga river, Varanasi Spriritual gurus next to the Ganga river, Varanasi The work-your-way team met up with us at the main bazaar this afternoon... felt like seeing family! We as a nothbound team are heading off to Agar to visit the Taj...

"See The Nations through the People’s Eyes"

"See The Nations through the People’s Eyes"
What an absolute privilege it is to be able to share in the lives of the locals. This opportunity is only possible by the grace of God. Thank you Lord for showing me just a glimpse of your beautiful world and all the beautiful people of it. God holds no measure of time, everything is always going on in his vision. That is how I feel about this year, there is no way I can fit it into one year, 2012, oh no! This year will be with me every year from now onwards and what I have learnt will...

into training and the unknown

into training and the unknown
Update story: When I last updated I told that we are going to do some school camp thing from the Tuesday till Sunday, but there was a surprise for us. After a nice hike with our backpacks we got to a area in the road where there were a roadblock and the theme to Survivor playing, yip it was Survivor time. The first challenge divided us in team and got us point to bid on start-up camp site boxes and no backpacks or goodies allowed. After that we were taken to our spots in the middle of nowhere to make...

Jesus - Interpreting Hearts

Jesus - Interpreting Hearts
We could feel our hearts beat as we have walked quite a while going door to door during the heat of the day to share the heart of The One that captured our hearts.. Then we met Louise - a 60 year old man who lives in the Amazon in his beautiful wooden house. And so Jansie, Kasia and I along with 4 other local missionaries enter this very humble, hospitable "oupa's" house. Immediately I get 3 words - "Children; Father of many; Man of many questions and pain." All we know is that Louise has not accepted Jesus -...

Live2love with God's love

7eb02bd7b71763a868d16ef95fd5998e--heart-drawings-drawings-of
Probably the most overused word and definitely the word most misunderstood: Love..Well I've had it wrong all along. We all know love's description in 1 Corinthians 13, but then I looked at this verse in 1 John 4: 7-8 "dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God (for God is love)" I was struggling to accept the idea that my love doesn't look very different from those who do not believe, because, "anyone who loves...

How blessed are my eyes!

How blessed are my eyes!
Peru has really been a place of seeing God, how he works and just so much more of him. Even the first night we set foot on the Peru side of the amazon river at Santa Rosa, it felt like nothing I had experienced before. A small pirate like town where I found myelf struck by the poverty and state of the surroundings. Rubbish floating past and everything dirty- Where was God in this situation? Then after getting our passports stamped in the most miraclulous way we went out to explore. In coming across a small little church with lights...
