Ice skating

IMG-20190318-WA0004
I can describle my experience of this training for my journey this year, in an ice skating session. The time it takes to learn how to fly over the cold frozen water. More like stick man skating....   Just like in the beginning of something new you struggle a lot to find your balance on blades. It's a new adventure to learn so much more about Jesus and the Bible. But the thing that really stood out was when we put all that we had learnt to practice out there. Standing on the slippery ice, I was holding the barricades...

Zambia – Our gateway to the East…

At our next ministry point (a mission base in Northern Zambia) we were fortunate to receive a time of training so to gain a greater understanding of the east in particular the Islamic religion and culture.

How good is the Good Samaritan?

Now that I’ve been to many places and I’ve met all kinds of people, I wonder. I wonder about the heart behind my actions and I wonder about the heart behind the actions of other pilgrims I’ve met. I wonder about the heart of the good Samaritan. I wish I could see the story play out.   Did he run to kneel beside the man and whip out his smartphone on selfiecam? #serving #humbled #helpthoseinneed   Suppose the innkeeper asked him for a little bit of extra cash to provide for some bandaids or medicine. Did the Samaritan...

Jesus is not a franchise

9bbe9507-1650-4edc-a58e-c309a5df156_20190421-211505_1
Jesus is not a franchise There is this saying that my dad would often say, “Jesus is not a franchise”. It never made much sense to me but recently I was confronted with a thought that made me think about it. We all worship God and we all love Jesus but our faith so easily becomes religious practice. I hear people make statements about Jesus and I find myself wondering if they realise what they are saying. Don’t get me wrong, my intention is not to judge people’s hearts, but rather take a look at my own. During our time...

I am...

Have you ever lost yourself in a person, a situation or an addiction? Well, I have. Many times! The question I ask myself the most is: "Who am I?". Whenever I struggle with a situation, or argue with someone, I always go back to my core. Throughout my life, I struggled to find my true identity and I always relied on other people or things to make me unique. These past couple of weeks, I was confronted with this specific question once again. I came to realise that I am not other people, I am not depression, I am not...

Live without a bubble

13631982_14707198650719_rid6

Like in the movie Bubble boy, we as humans tend to live in a bubble, a space where we feel save and comfortable to live our lives. But we go in to defence mode and attack people when ever thay threaten our bubble. The same goes with religion.

Cast your net just one more time...

fishing_net
Corona has impacted our year greatly and naturally we're disappointed to be in the position that we're in. None of us has anticipated to find ourselves on a grape farm near Worcester when we were actually supposed to be in Costa Rica or something. In these times we so often have the tendency to focus on the problem rather than God's provision. Our team is immensely blessed and I'd bet big money that we're having a better lockdown than anyone in South Africa. We have the wide open spaces of the farm, we have a means of earning money through...

From the first day we arrived in the Philippines with all it's promised beauty and extraordinary adventures.. We hit the ground running from sleeping in a very small airport to taking a 36 hour ferry in a room with more than 500 beds amd not even mentioning the heat this country has to offer.    We arrived at the first venue for the parents visit with excitement and even a few nerves. What a great time this was spending time with friends and family and getting to know our fellow travellers even more, with snorkeling, scuba diving amd jumping of...

I Was Never Gone

I Was Never Gone
Not so long ago, I felt a bit lost, as though I couldn't feel the Holy Spirit as strongly as before... Being my Sustainer, and what I stood on, I felt lost without Him guiding me and empty without Him filling every ounce of my being. I couldn't understand why. I knew He was still with me, because I stand on His promise that He will never leave nor forsake me. But I couldn't feel Him at all...  I knew that there was a reason, a purpose for it. I thought maybe He wanted to teach me something - let...

Pray before taking a single step

IMG-20190423-WA0002
On the 15th of March we arrived at our very first country, Rwanda. We were greeted by Bosco, our host and his family with a lot of love. Bosco runs a NGO where he nominates underprivileged children for a mentorship program, for proper schooling and to teach them the proper values and skills to be affective leaders. I immediately got excited when they told us that we would be helping at a local school teaching them from English to even sports. Members of our team was also needed at Bosco's office, for admin and advertisement of his NGO. During the...
