It is said that every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end. With that in mind, I start my preparations for GCEX 2011! But who am I and how did I get to be so blessed to be chosen for the journey of a lifetime? As you can see on the home page, my name is Linel le Roux. Born in Namibia and proudly bred in South Africa! At 25 I'm enjoying my first retirement, that from ship life. After 2 years of serving as a butler on a cruise ship, I'm convinced that I love the traveling, but...

Expecting the unexpected is quite easy when you have no expectations to begin with. It also leaves a lot of room for you to be awed around every corner. And that is exactly what happened in Nepal. From the very moment we stepped off the plane the adventure of not knowing what would happen next, began. After we spent quite some time to sort out an unexpected visa situation, we were greeted by Pastor Padam and Rudra, our Nepali hosts, with welcoming scarves and big warm smiles- a taste of what would be two weeks of heart-warming hospitality. We really...
We started out this morning with a great breakfast and some time to discuss our journey this year… And then out of the blue we received our challenge papers!!! But it was a challenge with a twist… ICC (India Compassion Challenge) is a challenge bases on Mat 25: 31- 46 and Job 29: 12- 17. Sony and I were in a team and I thought we had a leading start. Everything was going good and before we knew it, we were on our final and most important task: Feeding the hungry! We saw four families living on the street and...
North-Bound spent the day in Hong Kong as a stop-over to Delhi, India! We are boarding in 2 hours time and will arrive in Delhi around 02:00 am. Will be in Delhi until Friday to get to know more of India first hand. Will travel to Cotta (orphanage) on saturday... What a privilege!
India the eye opener! Hi, I hope you are well and blessed. I just want to let you know that everything is well. I have had a hard time in the beginning of this country. The weather is hot and the mosquitoes are eating us alive, but the children have stolen each and every one of our hearts. I wish I could show you what God has done for me! That I can only wish for until you see me again. As a lot of you (whom know me well) know I have always had a problem with my...
Even though Senegal is mainly a Muslim nation the levels of persecution in the country are very low. The pressure we felt in Morocco, Egypt and Mauritania to stay under the radar was now suddenly relieved and it felt great! But walking around St. Louis we felt other pressures mounting. Especially that of poverty. It was evident all around us, clearly seen in the big number of small children hanging around the streets begging. We then randomly met a Muslim man who was working with some of the children's homes in the area and took us to some...
Three weeks after we have left Cameroon, we as a team were busy with the debrief. I wrote my team the following letter, I think it shows a bit of every day life as a team of Explore Africa and the challenges we were facing....enjoy! Dear team, While debriefing Cameroon I came to the conclusion that we had quite a bumpy ride behind us. And by this I don’t only mean the road between Cameroon and Gabon. All of us had challenges, personal challenges, team challenges, cultural challenges, maybe even God-challenges. All of us learned lessons. For most of us...
"He is not here, he has risen." Looking back at Israel, I realized that we have been blessed more than we could ever have dreamt or imagined. We went to Israel only for 1 week, but it is a week that I will never forget. We might think that it is hard to live in South Africa, but we have no idée. Jews and Moslems fight over land and their religions. The capital city Jerusalem is torn between the Jews and the Palestine. In the midst of everything, they miss the only thing that really matters, our Savior that was...
Guatamala is propably not the first country that comes to mind if you think of a holiday destination. Well I can just confirm that it is worth spending time in this country. Apart from the people that are very friendly it is also reasonably cheap and have majestic sceneries. Our time in Panajachel (town in Guatamala) was mainly used for building projects. We linked with a local church and assist them with the various projects that they are involved in. I had to leave the team though to travel back to SA for my sister's wedding. I have...
