Mint leaves and olive trees

The market of Marrakech.   The brawl of the barter and triumph in the trade Searching for gems, the only honest crave In between alleys buzzing with scooters Swerving the peoples, hustling like looters   Crafty leather, a most distinguished scent Local delicacies rousing, how can one neglect The authenticity and atmosphere of market Marrakech, Though Bursting and striving, still longing to express The rainbow within that will not show in part An honest expression of only a colorful heart.   Fes: A game of shadows.    Veltie has done it again. This time 'round, there is more to it...

Something delightful

Going to Turkey was different for many of us. Some enjoyed not knowing where to go, what to do or what God has planned for us there. We only knew that He wants us to serve but the question was who first. The first guess was the refugees. Makes sense…they need help… we are here to serve… so we aimed for them, but it was like shooting a moving target in the dark. We heard so many rumours about where they are or should be but arriving only to see a lack of people to serve… Praying to God for...

Silence in the face of mystery

IMG_20180911_175010
God is the encounter we can not control,  that we will never get to the bottom of. One of the most dramatic moments of silence in the New Testament is Jesus' silence before His judges. The Gospel shows us how the high priest and Pontius Pilate urges Jesus to speak. And we are told in John's Gospel that when Jesus gives no answer to the charges made against Him, Pilate is "amazed."  In this story it shows that Jesus was precisely in the position of someone having His voice taken away. He is a person who has been reduced...

Work Your Way's First Country!!!

Work Your Way's First Country!!!
Panama   After 22 hours of flying we made it to Panama our first country. Our arrival was met with my bag going missing on the airport, not that it fazed me one bit. We then took a taxi to meet up with Pastor Bill at his church in Gamboa, which is a small town next to the Panama Canal. Pastor Bill moved to Gamboa over 30 years ago to minister at the Gamboa Union Church. We stayed at the church for 8 days, where we had so much free time... but it was filled to the brim with worship,...

It's more "pun" in the Philippines

From eating "sea spaghetti", meeting new sisters in Christ, breaking down spiritual strongholds, and seeing hearts changed, the Philippines has been amazing.   After fives days of traveling using over five different kinds of transport and sleeping anywhere we could find, from airports to piers, we finally arrived in the Philippines. When we arrived we were greeted by the short term Philippines team (affectionately nicknamed the Beauty Pageant) who would be working with us with a local pastor. Our minestry was mostly evengelical, which was a new experience for most of us. We would start the day with house visits...

Little Boxes

Little boxes on the hillside, Little boxes made of ticky tacky, Little boxes on the hillside, Little boxes all the same. There's a green one and a pink one And a blue one and a yellow one, And they're all made out of ticky tacky And they all look just the same. And the people in the houses All went to the university, Where they were put in boxes And they came out all the same, And there's doctors and lawyers, And business executives, And they're all made out of ticky tacky And they all look just the same. And...

Egypt: the in's and outs

Hey all our Yellow Team fans :-) A lot has happened since the last time we spoke...we pick up then where we left off! Anafora (25 Feb - 2 Mar) was loaded with some study and learning time but we also see it as a huge privilege that we had to ease into the Egyptian culture by being introduced to it in all its various forms, although secluded in the sense that we were looked after by our hosts and ot in the city as such. Great preparation for Cairo with its 26 Million (according to the locals) people living there!...

2 Days 2 go!!

The countdown for a life changing experience is near its end!! 6 Weeks and I'm ready to take the world!! The past month has been an life changing experience. I've met people sharing my passion for the nations, I've come to learn more about Chris and Jesus is now a reality in my life. I had the priviledge of seeing God doing miracles in people around me, challenged from Jbay to PE with R200 in my pocket and going places I have never been before. 'Die bos' was awesome (I know that I am not allowed to use that word,...

Cake-eaters for life! Blue teams starter-upper Luke10 in Guatemala

Cake-eaters for life! Blue teams starter-upper Luke10 in Guatemala
In Panajachel another group of young people came to also serve Mi-Reto and we came alongside them. So we are just unknowingly sitting listening to Louis (our team leader) welcoming the new group and he says “Ok, please open your Bibles up to Luke 10” and thats when we knew!! Luke 10 challenge!!! The challenge is to go out, preach the gospel and heal the sick and take nothing with you! So our instructions were to leave Panajachel, find our man of peace and come back in 3 days. We got 20Q (which is equal to R20) and that we...

Playing "house-house" in Guyana

"What a beautiful house you have! Did you build it yourself? I think Shaun helped you to build it right?" It is only smiles that comes from the 7 or 8 year old girl sitting in front of the pieces of sink and pieces of material that makes out to be the two beautiful little girls' play house! It is situated between coconut and indigenous trees and bushes in a small town called Timehri, Guyana.    The background of where these two lovely little girls come from is still a mystery to me. But I know that the lady that...
