PRAY FOR INDIA

PRAY FOR INDIA, PRAY FOR INDIA, PRAY FOR INDI-AAA!!! This is the song the girls taught us to dance to while we were there earlier this year...  We've been remembering again and again to pray for the orphanages, their staff, each of the children who crept so deeply into our hearts, the country and all the Christians who live there. Since the end of August the State of Orissa has been facing severe persecution.  Many have died as martyrs and thousands are left homeless after churches and villages had been burnt to the ground.  I remember the verses God used...

Simply come...

Simply come...
Over a month into this adventure and the time has come for me to play blog catch up! It seems that 12 years of perfecting my procrastination skills isn't a skill easily dropped. Welcome to Global Challenge!  A crazy buch of young people headed to the nations ready of anything strengthed and effective for only one reason God and God alone. ' 'It is no longer i who lives but christ who lives in me'' Gal 2vs20  Trying to sum up the last weeks is a futile attempt as so much has happened that my words have already began to fail me. Not just the events...

African Heartbeat

The African silence crept back into my heartand made its home in me today: Peace and rest and waiting Speaking in different languages braiding hair, eating fruit and sharing stories 'n Child sleeping silently on my lap A slowly-bumping vehicle, Rolling out mats in the shade of a tree Being together, speaking and laughing without words This is the Africa that I know. And the fellowship of the Spirit Now, the heat is becoming more bearable and the longing melts away And in this I get to know Youand the heartbeat of Africa Thank You that You came to do...

Explore Africa to Transkei

Explore Africa to Transkei
EA has just returned from our most exciting challenge yet: a two week trip to the Transkei. You would think that we would be enjoying a bit of chill time, airing our wet tents and getting organized but instead you’ll find us squatting in a shopping centre eating scraps of bread. So how did it get to this?   Let’s start at the beginning…our attention first turned to the Transkei when we were informed of the need to fundraise for week 1 of our stay – which involved practical repair work at Coffee Bay Comprehensive Christian School (CBCCS). While dressed...

From Cuba to Caymans, can you say CULTURE SHOCK!?

Signs, wonders and miracles.  Miracles.  Yes, we saw many of those!  Being in a country where the cheapest hotel costs R1 500 a night, per room, camping is illegal and prison ministry isn't something we want to attempt - yet. (For any parents reading this, don't worry, your kids are still happy, safe and in very good, responsible hands!)  So yes, our Global budget isn't able to stretch that far, so what do YOU do then??  Well, it's simple.  You pray!  And God works.  Oh man, and He did!  God provided in so much abundance!

The Miracle

A doorframe for every household!19 February 2008 - Red Hill

When the Red Hill crises started almost two weeks ago people were talking about how much money it would cost to rebuild the community.
In general the amount turned around the R400 000 mark.
Of course everybody knew that such a big amount would only be possible if God showed up and did something pretty extraordinary.

Thailand (Land of the smiles)

Thailand (Land of the smiles)
-Land of the smiles- Upon arriving in Thailand I couldn't help but notice the smiles of all the people. This is probably which makes Thailand such a great tourist destination. It is a culture that was created. I thought about how in my own life as a Christian I also need this culture that pulls people closer and makes all the problems seem smaller. Our flight arrived in Bangkok and we took an overnight bus to Phuket. In Phuket we stayed at a special needs school and also at Asia Foundation center which supports many schools and safety houses for Children. Immediately...

Training... what did I sign up for???

Day 40: The locals seem to have grown accustome to my presence and have accepted me as one of there own.  Thoughts of my previous life have started to fade and words like 'patient', 'dentures' and 'medical aid' are rearly spoken. Instead my days are filled with  spontanuous 'adventures' such as being abandoned in the bush for days and having to compete for food or being told to 'build a road' with no actual knowledge of what a road consists of (a fact that I have yet to admit to my new family). Despite the pressures of my new...

Going places...with God

Going places...with God
When you find the truth in life, what earthly thing can be good enough?  Christ is all, and is in all. To know a King and have a relationship with Him is mind blowing. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.   And surly I am with you always, to the very end of the age.  Matt 28:19-20 I am very excited about next year, expecting awesome stuff.
