Learning how to be a sheep

Learning how to be a sheep

The speaker crackled as the pilot announced our descent. Nervously, I grabbed Kasia’s hand as we descended into my homeland… South Africa, hello old friend. I was ready to go home, ready to see my family and friends, ready for the next step God prepared for me. I just wasn’t ready to say goodbye to my team…my family.

We had spent ten months in each other’s company. For the last eight months, I had watched these people grow and mature as the Gardener Himself pruned and fertilized them. They watched me cry, laughed with me, supported me, prayed for me and loved me. They were my family for eight months… and now I had to say goodbye? God, am I ready to be on my own again after being part of a team for so long?

Pana-MANIA

Pana-MANIA
Panama is definately one of my top countries that I wanted to re-visit after last years journey through Latin America.  I didn't think I would be able to come back so quickly but wow what a privilege. I can think of many reasons to rush back to Panama; the beautiful rainforrest of Gamboa, staying right on the Panama Canal, sloths, tucans, anteaters and iguanas roaming the streets but the real reason I wanted to go back was for the people of Gamboa Union Church especially Pastor Bill.     God did so much in my heart in Panama last year...

Our story so far...

Our story so far...
Before we left we spent time with Daniel who hosted a disabled camp for 6 disabled children and their carers. That next morning the kombi was packed and we were sent off by the GCEX staff and LXP leaders.   The trip down to Knysna, Mossel Bay and finally Cape Town were filled with a lot of stops and adventure. We witnessed our co-driver's bungee, pushed our kombi to the garage in Knysna, stayed with friends in Mossel Bay and camped in Kommetjie! The rain did not scare us off and the ironning room became our kitchen.   Marshmellows over the fire is now...

Training.... Again?

Yes you heard correctly! I am doing my second year of Global Challenge! My last journey was North Bound 2010. This year I am in the Distant Islands team. I am so grateful for my team! They are so supportive and loving. I also have a new vision this year: To impact and serve the team to the best of my ability, and to apply the lessons I've learned in my previous Global Challenge journey and through last year.

Jamaica: Land of Reggae and sunshine...

Jamaica: Land of Reggae and sunshine...
Jamaica is one of those countries like Switzerland or Morocco or the Maldives, meaning that if you ask people if they would like to go there, 90% of the replies will probably be a firm “yes”.   I wonder why that is, though.  Is it because of the publicity the country received through mediums like Bob Marley or the Cool Runnings movie?  The fact of the matter is that Jamaica is not what most people would expect.  It is probably one of the countries that resemble Africa the most outside of the African continent.  Which did make it all the...

The lost blog of the Pink team!!!!

Finally the Pink team Blogs again :P  The last couple of weeks has been really incredible, we have experienced so much of God's faithfullness and provision starting with winning the "thailand/Malaysia" Challenge right through to being priviledged to have built awesome friendships in every place we have been. We are currently on a backpackers journey through different small villages somewhere in the middle of China.  We as a team have decided to do it as a "Luke 10 type journey" where we trust God for food, accomodation, travel and the right contacts in every place.  Already we can testify.... We...

GOD's creation is a masterpiece!

Today was a new experience to a lot of us! We had the day off (it was Charmaine‘s birthday), spent about R55 and we were all off to the Himalayas to go on a bit of a hike to experience the true Himalayan experience… SNOW! An hour and a half ride through the mountains in the Indian jeeps (Mahindra) we were at our drop-off! It started raining! Now the question was… to go on this 3 hour hike in the rain to see snow, or to go back to town and sit in a coffee shop??? Hike it was!!!! We...

Argentina: A Spanish Luke 10

Argentina: A Spanish Luke 10
Luke 10 stories are bound to be interesting stories always. The fact of the matter in this case was: A group of 3 people going into a foreign, Spanish speaking country for 7 days without money, transport, food or a plan, except trusting God for Devine appointments along the way. How can you not see God's hand working in a time like this, where you have to trust Him for everything? When we are weak, He is strong. In Salta we said chao to the rest of the Hidden World group and with an excitement/slight nervousness inside we started hitchhiking...
