Guatemala - the truth will set you free!

Guatemala - the truth will set you free!
Being the leader of a group of missionaries would never be an easy task, and the group of young men that God picked out for me to lead was no exception.  There were and are many hurdles that I have to overcome.  Take for instance that my team consists of six exuberant and lively 18 and 19 year olds.  I really do enjoy time with them. The age gap makes it hard sometimes to relate, but luckily we have our Lord in common.  He grants wisdom to those who obey. Then there is the fact that the last time I...

New Zealand – a glimpse on life after GCX

Looking back on our time in New Zealand, this has been the most difficult country for me to be in.  The contrast compared to what I've experienced in India, is significant.  On first sight, this country looks perfect.  There's no sign of poverty or people struggling to keep head above water.  Everyone's got all they need and more.  And this was one of the things that hit me the moment we arrived.  Driving towards our destination a sadness overwhelmed me.  The kind of sadness that accompanies the sight of people who have all they want, who's lives are going well...

The power of our testimony

The power of our testimony
The 3 weeks we had in New Zealand was amazing. Spending time with my host-parents from last year and the youth from the Afrikaans church was a privilege. I could see the hunger they have for the Lord and how much they really need Him. It was encouraging for me to share with them what the Lord has done in my life and how faithful he has been. By sharing with them, these experiences became a part of my life and not just another story. I underestimated the power our testimonies have and the responsibility towards others to tell them about the work of God. For me it might...

The Promised Land

The Promised Land
“This is my command – be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 This was said to Joshua just before he crossed the Jordan River to enter the Promised Land, and it was as applicable for us as it was for him. With a truly intense border security (not joking) I found myself praying similar prayers to the first two Israelites who entered the country: Lord, please make me invisible and give me favour with the people. And He, being the same yesterday, today and...

The profound toilet roll!

The profound toilet roll!
While in Zambia, we had the opportunity to go to the local village school, and each team had a class to “entertain.” The red team was lead to teach the kids to keep their eyes on Jesus - no matter what. We assembled all the brown toilet rolls to make binoculars as props for each kid. (To the dismay of some, I robbed everyone’s full rolls of their carton bit-hehe!) The teaching went great-it looked like the kids had immense fun jumping up and down. We gave them a prerogative like: “When you are sad,” and they would eagerly...

Base Camp - The A Team!

Base Camp - The A Team!
We can only describe the day we've had so far as absolutely crazy, bizarre, hectic and very intense (fun!!). We set out this morning at 8 o'clock, with one A4 paper stating detailed tasks for the day - to be documented by photographs as proof.  The first couple of tasks we managed to do quickly: Sand papering a wooded balcony while reading Luke chapters 1 -  3 out loud, decoring a cake and washing out first of ten cars for the day. Then we went in search of the elusive "Sandkasteel", convinced that we must find a sand structure on the beach. After jogging and...

Impacted by India

Hello

As I write this, I am sitting on a two day train from the North of India to the South. And I literally do not have the words to fully describe what I have experienced here (And for those of you who know me well, that is a miracle in itself ;-)
