Luke 10 part 2: Suprise suprise

Luke 10 part 2: Suprise suprise
Before Luke 10 started Rueben and I talked and prayed a lot. We knew anything can happen and we though we were ready for anything. God clearly showed us that we though wrong. What happened on our Luke 10 is something nobody would consider as possible options. Not because it cannot happen, just because nobody thinks of these things before hand. Never the less, it was somewhat fun and something that changed my outlook on people. It took some time for us to move on from the gas station. We stayed there for a while. We had no idea where...

Niamey - Niger

Sitting on the back of the Hilux pick up (bakkie -afrikaans) I am often wondering why am I in this godforsaken desert? Where day time temperatures hit 40 degrees Celsius, and in the night it cools down to 27, maybe 26 degrees Celsius (we were told that the hottest period lies still ahead in April and May). And the fine dust just choke the life out of you.  Just to have the Lord answering me " I am busy in this desert" I was challenged by the Lord to focus on what He is doing in this country: • Providing...

Colombia V2.5 Santa Martha

Colombia V2.5 Santa Martha
First 4 days Well as stated in the last blog, in stead of going to Venezuela we ended up going to Santa Martha in Columbia. We got on the bus and for a nice relaxing 20h bus ride to Santa Martha. We were met by pastor Julio and Jon a missionary of the church that we were put in contact with. We were blessed with our own 3 bedroom apartment that we could stay in for the first week for free and they had a programme planned out. We started the first few days with some kids ministry in the...

French Flair goes a long way!

We stood for no less than 10 minutes when a big 18 wheeler truck pulled up. That first day in Kaffrine things were looking tough for us but now it was happening fast!   We ran over to the truck and the driver was more than pleased to give us a lift. In fact he wanted to buy us breakfast as well. We couldn't believe it. A lift and food- truly a miracle. We sat at a roadside café enjoying a traditional African breakfast: very sweet tea and some white bread with butter.   Of course a truck is...

China town(s)

China town(s)
21days, 7 towns, 3 people, 1 mission: to spread the Gospel but there's 1 small obstacle: language   Marnus, Darko and myself (otherwise known as the MTT - Muslim Traveling Team) were sent out from Xining on a 21 day mission to 7 towns in the Ghanzou province, which is in the western part of China. Afterwards we joined the team for debrief in Shaga.   First up was Dagajia , consisting of two streets crossing one another. We met one English speaking guy in the town who pointed us in the direction of the school, where an English teacher lives....

Gautengeleng is where it’s happening

Yes, you all wanna stay in Gautengeleng... at least you should!

We had such a blessed weekend away (14 and 15 January) with many previous Global Challengers who now live in the Gauteng and the surrounding area (and even had some visitors from China and Jeffrey’s Bay – now that’s commitment!).

India - Sensory overload

Over the last few weeks I have seen and smelt things I will never forget! Your senses are constantly insulted from the crazy traffic to the swarms of people on the streets to the cows and dogs wandering everywhere! To a british person who is used to queues and order this was quite an eye opener! It is really survival of the fittest. However on the contrary there just seemed to be a lack of life with people just sat at the side of the road with no purpose or hope of anything more than they have at the moment. It is a strange paradox.
