Red Team Update: China

Red Team Update - 27 March 2008

To put our first week's experiences in China into words is kind of impossible! Let's try anyway! Mondaymorning we were stopped at the borderpost while trying to get over the border from Macau. Hector were one of the two lucky one's who got to get over and sat eating KFC in China while we were surviving on duty-free sweets in no-man's-land! Eight hours and a complete baggage search later, we were allowed to grab our stuff and run over, as our bus was about to leave in a few minutes! Few hours later everyone was settled on the train for our 2 and a half days journey up north.

Meet the best students EVER!!

This time in Hat Yai has been such a blessing! I had the most amazing students, and love each one of them dearly!

These crazy kids I had each morning, challenging my creativity to levels I never thought it could reach!! The teacher definitely had lots more fun than the kids!

Gutt (7), Gett (8), Will (13), We (9) and Teacher Elizma!

A blessing but depressing - N.Z vs S.A

A blessing but depressing - N.Z vs S.A
Wow, what a blessing I had few weeks ago when six lucky Global Challenges went to join a ministry called Stormco. We had a super road trip as we travelled from Auckland to Wellington. We passed an awesome place called Routarou, where the place constantly stinks because of the natural springs. However we were fortunate to meet up with friends who stay there and they treated us to some great Pizza and a place to stay for the evening. The next morning we went to an extraordinary place called the secret place. So unfortunately I can't tell you anything more. Jokes....

Good Bye Dahab...Here we come Holy City..

Dahab (and Egypt) has been taxing in particular. Strangely it was not the country where we traveled the most --- even though Dahab is a 10h mini-van drive away from Cairo... Dahab is a tourist city with tourist-traps (and those who are in the game of "trapping" you) to be found everywhere...But it must be one of the most remarkable landscapes I have ever seen. The desert on your one hand and the bluest waters of the Red Sea on the other is something to behold. There are no white sandy beaches. Pebbles lead into the ocean (icy cold...

The Promise land of China

The Promise land of China
I was surprised to see how beautiful China was when we started to travel more to the country side.  The huge mountains stretched out for kilometers on end.  My eyes were opened to a new idea of what china was all about.  And soon enough God started to show me what He saw for this beautiful place. During my stay in China I was reminded of the story of Joshua and the Israelites.  Linking these thoughts to a scripture I would like to read from Joshua 6:1-3 "Now Jericho was securely shut up because of the children of Israel;...

Dancing on the walls of Jerusalem

Philippians. 2:1-7 “So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not...

Mission imPOOsible!

Buenas Dias (good day) from the thriving city of Bogota, Colombia.

Currently we find ourselves in the third highest city in South America found in the Andes mountains, 8500 meters above sea level, unwinding from two weeks of toiling and really applying the “getting down to earth” core value of global challenge.  As we begin to shift focus to our next crazy adventure to Peru, we invite you to embark on a short stroll down memory lane in Fusagasuga, Colombia.

You are the salt for the world!

All creation proves the realness of God!  Even in China, driven by Communism and prosecuting the Christians to go underground, the symbol for salt is a church!
