Mzungu, You are Welcome!

Mzungu, You are Welcome!
Welcome, you're welcome and what's up? Come eat my irish, my pocho (or pap) . Add some sweet banana , jackfruit and smile, but don't hold your breath, this might take a while... Take a boda-boda , yeah, catch my ride; Even if it breaks down, at least I tried. Don't mind the stray goat or cow . They'll know we're coming, somehow... "Mzungu, how are you?" is the most common phrase. But don't expect them to come running with tea trays. But take all this with a pinch of salt and say: "Hakuna Matata!" "That's 'lekker' , like...

Overwhelmed by God Promises and His Faithfulness

So I believe you have read our Hidden world blog on our first week of travels. This was definitely not how you would start a journey - hitch hiking to Paraguay because you do not have enough money. But God provide to each of us in the way we needed and there is definitely a plan with our first week being so challenging regarding finances.   So we made it to Santiago, Chile, in one peace, very excited to do our first ministry. Immediately the church embraced us, loved us and blessed us. So for me only one word describes Chile - OVERWHELMED. It started by God...

Beauty for ashes

Beauty for ashes
You never know what you can live without until you have to carry everything in one bag on your back -JS This week has been the craziest and probably most frustrating time of my entire life, we didn't get our Macedonia visas and had to come to Israel earlier. I have never felt the need to make notes of what happens to me until I experienced this week and knew I had to tell you guys all about it. I am currently sitting in my tent and decided I HAVE to write. Everything I am using now fits into my...

Refugees and Roma

Refugees and Roma
Macedonia - what a surreal country. On the one hand beautiful fairy tale landscapes with frozen-in-time villages, and on the other hand poor Roma (gypsy) communities and refugee camps. Our main focus for the country was serving and connecting with the refugees but of course we experienced so much more. With some experience in previous countries with the crises, I went out day one excited to make new friends and practice some of the Arabic I have learned. But this was not like our previous encounters. We drove 40min each day through the beautiful colourful countryside on the way...

Buying "mielies" on the streets of China

Buying mielies on the street!CHINA - Written by Sulene

What a joyful experience...

Buying "mielies" on the streets of China, who would've thought? First, you need a friendly smile!  But that is not hard to give or to receive in a city where very few people have ever seen a bunch of foreigners sitting around with huge backpacks on the street corner.
