Unbelieving Me

willem-op-tafelberg.jpg

The Airplane cruised down the runway , I could hear the engines increasing in speed as the noise grew louder and louder.

Then suddenly, just before take-off, one engine cut out. Silence. The pilot stopped the aircraft and taxied back to the airport.

Parties vs. Fellowship

Parties vs. Fellowship
Many of us, when we hear Bali, we think of the movie "Eat, pray, love".   An Indonesian island, predominantly Hindu, with cheap furniture.   A multitude of Westerners come here for the parties, surfing or a cheap vacation.   A few years ago I probably would've as well.   But there's so much more to Bali...       Our first few days in Bali, I felt very heavy hearted.   Idol worship, temples around every corner, people "kuiering", drugs openly available.   My mind felt so polluted. I didn't know what we were doing here?   But something...

Hawaii

Some say this is paradise. What is paradise? Maybe then this will be paradise to you. Or maybe this will set your dream on the paradise that is awaiting the followers of Christ – like it did for me.

Another day at the office...

Another day at the office...
3 weeks ago we found out that the Transkei needs some help, so we answered the call. To fund the various projects, we had 3 blikskud sessions in PE - in less than 5 hours, God blessed us with R35 000! So from the word go, we felt the Lord's hand of provision on us, in finances, material and tools. Our first week, we spent in Coffee Bay, serving at Coffee Bay Comprehensive Christian School. We painted classrooms & bathrooms; put in a new door; pulled straight a wooden classroom dubbed "Plankie" & put up a new sink roof over...

Can Cuba be summarised in words? Impossible! But with God all things are possible... He is impossibly possible! Here is a short summary of how each team member experienced Cuba and what God did in them while in Cuba:

Learning to rest in God

Our Chile journey started after arriving at the airport and we immediately knew who our host family was: the crowd jumping up and down with smiles brighter than the nightsky of Santiago greeting us with their warm hearts.

Tibet - what an amazing journey!

Tibet - what an amazing journey!
NEPAL IS A COUNTRY RIGHT??? While we were in Shimla we prayed about where to go next, and the answer was without a doubt Nepal. First, I had to learn that Nepal was in fact a country, and not a city on it’s own. Yes, my Geography is not up to date about countries in Asia. It turns out that everyone who wants to climb Mount Everest comes to Nepal, so there were many tourists to reach... tourists in search of something more, and in fact, we really have the answer. And we know the perfect tourguide – because He...

Sunrise

Sunrise

Sunrise. I have always thought about sunrises and sunsets as God's own special living painting for us to show us just a small piece of His greatness and His glory. On this specific day I got up very early and was excited to watch yet another breaking of the day as the darkness will be chased away by the red, orange and yellow colors playing on the horizon. Staring out over the ocean it slowly became lighter and lighter but as it got lighter my disappointment grew more and more -the dark clouds were blocking the rays of the sun. Feeling cheated and grumbling about getting up very early just to stare at dark clouds I asked God were His beautiful sunrise is. The answer? "It is still there, you just have to look at it from above the clouds."

Knowing that the sun will rise again tomorrow I left to go and face the day, not yet knowing that through this sunrise God was preparing me for this specific day and teaching me a lesson that I would carry with me the rest of my life…

Being pursued when it rains....

Being pursued when it rains....
As a child I often looked at the rain and imagined it was God’s tears falling from heaven because of all the terrible things in the world. As an adult with knowledge of science, I now sit and mostly just enjoy the trickle of water down the window or the pitter-patter on the roof. This morning, however, I found those thoughts of old returning together with a feeling of longing that was not from me. In my past ignorance I have prayed that God would break my heart for what breaks His (a truly irresponsible prayer if you are not...

Friendly faces all around...

We’ve been in China  4 weeks and visited different cities, okay more town like than city like but that’s what made it so interesting!!  Because we went to towns most of the people are astonished by foreigners.  Thus entertaining them is easy, just by walking along the streets and saying ‘knee how’ (this spelling is totally wrong but when you read it aloud the pronunciation is correct) gets you giggles and smiles from all around...
