When two worlds collide…

When two worlds collide…
On the other side of the wall… As South Africans we are familiar with the concept of having a country within another country, but this did not prepare me for what I experienced crossing the ‘border’ into Palestine. Bethlehem is about 7,1km outside Jerusalem with a large 8m high wall dividing the one city from the other. Imagine a scene out of the Hunger Games with the towering wall, barbed wire everywhere and people with guns patrolling the area. And so we drove through this scene only to be met with gas bombs, tires burning and people with gas masks...

The Negev Desert, Israel

Our time in Israel has been so rich and the change in landscapes and scenery is incredible. This was one of my highlights, the Negev Desert. It is the biggest crater in the world caused by erosion.

Our planned detour

Since Kosovo, our team has stepped into a musical. The absence of wifi and the presence of lovely hosts made the difference. We had a lot of freedom to spend time with Christ and grow in unity. It was a healing and strengthening time there and not at all a disappointment. The fact that we could not go to China is long forgotten, because we truly believe God wanted us in Kosovo. Our hosts admitted to wishing for help and knowing God used us to show them He hears their prayers even before they pray them, means the world. We...

In which reality do YOU choose to live

During the last 42 days I experienced so much of God, Words can't even begin to explain the goodness of our God. For Mexico I was holding  on to the promise that God gave us earlier  in the year. Promising that He will provide a host for us and a place where we can serve and walk in His will. Now keep in mind that we are on a $2 budget for central America for everything!! This means trusting God not 98% not 99.99% but 110%. This was the decision I made to trust God, with everything completely. So let...

God provides...

Called to the nations...   I want to share God's provision with everyone.  He is faithful in the small thing and also in the huge things (like asking people for money). It is such a humbling experience to see God provide and see how God stir in people all around the worlds hearts to give and to pray.  I'm sure if it isn't for all the prayers I wouldn't be so blessed. I did some maths and I realised that R48 000-00 ($6400) divided by 80days = R600-00 ($80) a day.   November 2008 21 Alabanza - Pta 22...

Luke 10 – Taiwan – Pray Eat Laugh

Team: Marielle Visser, Arthur McKinnon and Ashleigh Hooper

When you read Luke 10 in the Bible it seems very straight forward, simple and easy... but in reality it is difficult to know how to apply it practically in today’s world. Our Luke 10 experience had many interesting and fun aspects, but the three things that were most evident in our Luke 10 journey, was definitely: We Prayed a lot, We Ate a lot and we Laughed a lot!

Marliaan - Hawaii

Marliaan - Hawaii
Time flies when you are having fun! So, we had an option in Japan to go on an earlier flight to Hawaii and of course, I took it! We spend the whole day on the airport and flew out at 18h30 the evening of the 23 Des 2007.  We arrived at 7.30 am of the 23 Des in Hawaii! It is a great day to have over again.  We arrived in friendly Hawaii with an Aloha and were VERY tired and jetlagged!   We camped at the YWCA near the waterfront at a bay called Kaneohe Bay. The people...

Compelled to go

The courage in taking a little step can be the start of a great journey. So, before telling stories about my experience in the nations this year, I think it is pretty important to remember that God was already part of the beginning. God placed a desire for people in my heart long before I ever realized it would mean, going into the nations, would be part of it. Taking a year off, like this, and going into the nations never seemed like much of an option for me. I always imagined my life to proceed in the very stereotypical,...
