When He grabs hold of you

When He grabs hold of you
We are in Kenya. We are in Kenya. We are in Kenya. A year ago I would have been at work doing some MS Excel programming and moving automotive parts in a warehouse to create space for more parts... I AM IN KENYA. We are walking through the streets of Kenya, we are teaching primary school kids that Jesus is the Winner Man, we are eating mangos, chapattis and beans. Karibu. We are in Kenya. No matter how many times I repeat it, it still feels weird and unreal. When we arrived here alot of us asked the question: What...

Salt and light!

Salt and light!
On the first day of the new year my prayer for our team "Northbound" is that we will be Salt and Light to the nations! The Sermon on the Mount "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are...

Yellow represents GCEX @ private school in kiwi land*

Yellow represents GCEX @ private school in kiwi land*
Their fields look like golf courses, you see rainbows daily, the houses look like they can be picked up at anytime and their poo pond looks like Silver Lakes golf estate's lakes! New Zealand is beautiful... and FULL of South Africans! We were all suprised to realise the numbers of South Africans here... so much so that when you are speaking Afrikaans in a shop, you need to be careful of what you say! Pretorius, Le Roux, Bosman, Ferreira, van Rensburg etc are common surnames here now! The local libraries even have a shelf for Afrikaans books! Not to mention...

The pro's of not understanding their language....

The pro's of not understanding their language....
I have no idea what on earth I expected, but I never even considered that language would be such a big gap to bridge when it comes to ministering in South America! Well, being a Vrystaatse farm girl, that considers English as a forreign language, you can just imagine what went through my mind as we stepped off the airplane in São Paulo, Brazil... Never mind English , everything was in Portugese !!! And I mean EVERYTHING and everyone! The stop signs, ATM's, soda names, stop signs, custom ladies, exit signs, DVD's, television programs....oooh and I can go on...! But...

Breakfast in a hammock

Breakfast in a hammock
We started Peru off in Iquitos. This is a town in the middle of the Amazon! How did we get there? Well there are no roads to Iquitos only rivers to Iquitos. So your options are boat or plane. We opted to go for a 3 day upriver boat trip from Leticia Colombia.                         This boat trip was so special! We slept in hammocks had no team activities, the boat cooked for us and sailed us up stream for 3 glorious days. We had our meals served to...

They are worth it!!

They are worth it!!
The headlights of the bus lightened the entrance to the orphanage and a young boy ran to open the gate. As the door of the bus opened my heart replayed well kept memories; I am where my heart is. Standing and embracing the moment I dared to look around to find familiar things, children and or faces. Behind me I saw his smile, joyful and alive. “You are here”, I exclaimed! Lun the Kitchen boy, my boy came to greet me. Having no contact for more than a year I was hoping he was still here. With no time wasted...

A New Beginning!!!

It’s been 28 years and it was not enough to find my own identity, so here I am to search for mine and show the World, “Why God created me?” God was really great and awesome throughout my life, and HE is enough for me, in this exciting year ahead of me. I know HE will be there in every step, I take. I know HE loves me and HE is going to show me miracles ahead, which I never thought of. I love HIM and what to share it with all, I encounter in the year lay ahead of...

A NIGHT ENTERING FANTASY

A NIGHT ENTERING FANTASY
What a perfect day? What an amazing way? What an awesome sight to see woman being pampered and finding God in the finer things of life... I never realized how easy it is to see the work of God and to experience the way Christ is changing peoples' lives. A night of flowers, candles, great food and desert - pampering gained a new meaning as the laughter came to life in the presence of some live music.   Woman goes through life never believing that they are truly beautifully made and that God really loves them. But God came...

The adventure down the chocolate river with my Dad, Nepal

I know you're probably thinking that this is such a strange heading for a blog, well yes it is but it was a word i got for Nepal and on top of that it gets me super excited to write about ;) Just like when you rowing through the rapids of rough waters and it feels like a battle seemingly IMPOSSIBLE to over come.. This is similar to what i experienced in Nepal in terms of our street ministry there.( except that Jesus is way more powerful than anything we encountered).. Everywhere my eyes glanced there were idols that people...

This is me...

Wow. I read the blogs of the people I'll be joining on 80days (and the others already on their respective challenges) and...wow...The commitment amazes me , each blog tells a story of not only a journey that has yet to happen...but a journey that has been started quite some time ago ...and after reading all the blogs it makes it difficult to write my own...simply because I feel that I am no different to any person sitting next to me, that I have no "special" story to tell...My reasons for doing 80days have changed so much over the last couple of...
