A Church was planted...

ouma-nhokoteni-in-her-new-k.jpg29 April 2008

As I was tightening the last screw on the lock I just put into the door I saw “Ouma Nhokoteni” in the corner of my eye sitting on a chair in her kitchen. She was talking to two ladies I have never seen before in Red Hill.

Moments earlier she invited these two strangers into her new home and made them some fresh tea. Interested in what was going to happen next, I continued to fiddle with the lock.

A step on the warm side of the planet

A recent visit to Kuala Lumpur proved to be more than we bargained for! All of the teams arrived at Kuala Lumpur airport and we all made our way to Pudu hostel like a nice little group of tourists! Around 2 am we all went to bed in the extreme heat and struggled to fall asleep. 4 hours later Hatting woke us up cheerfully with a little brown envelope on our beds: Challenge number 2! All of us decided the previous day that we would have breakfast together so we did that and then the challenge started. The yellow team...

Catholic Holy Day

Catholic Holy Day
Fatima - Portugal 8 Dec our local "fostering" families took us to Fatima, head of the Catholic Church in Portugal. It was a national Catholic festive day in Portugal and the cathedral grounds were swamped by hungry hearts. Hungry for salvation, yet the salvation their religion offers them does not refresh their hearts!! We saw people buying and burning candles as some way of keeping their light shining in a world full of darkness ( the same darkness that keeps them blinded). Candles for every possible event in your life from birth, right through to death and for every possible...

India to Cambodia

India to Cambodia
What a ride the last 5 weeks have been! We arrived in India and headed up to Shimla in the Himalayas where we experienced the colour festival... Climbed snow covered mountains... and spoke to the locals about hinduism. It is very interesting. Everything is relative, they believe in over 3 million gods, but always agree when we say there is only one, and often even go to church. They will happily accept that Jesus is a god but not that He is the only way. Our very last day in Shimla we went on a prayer walk and ended up...

Turkey in Retrospect

Turkey in Retrospect
We departed from Turkey almost two months ago already, but it was such an overwhelming experience to be a pilgrim in the country where a big part of the new testament plays off that I struggled to put it into words. Here is my attempt at celebrating the highlights! We arrived in Istanbul, a cosmopolitan city located halfway in Asia and halfway in Europe with a strong Middle Eastern influence. The streets smell of incense and turkish delight and various kinds of fruit teas can be found in every sidewalk cafe and street market. Here I found that Psalm 16:5...

1 Week...

It has been a crazy week...We are in our fourth country already...  We are masters of Asian public transport --- when we aren't amazed by the country side we sleep at 90 degree angles...  It has been a wonderful journey...horseback around the piramides in Egypt, swimming in Thailand, praying for dinner at 2 am in Kuala Lumpur and on the back of a motor cycle in Cambodia..this is only thew first week of 80 days 2008/09...  God has used this time to build close relationships within the team --- it feels like we know each other for quite a while...

You will go looking for food in the dumpster or in the field or just chow the crumps lying around.   So this made me think... how much wills I give or how Far will I go to get spiritual food. What will be the measure to be gained my daily bread of life...? (Mat 15:21)...
